In
Grounded 2, upgrading your weapons is essential for taking on the game's toughest challenges. To do this, you'll need to find and process
Brittle Quartzite, a crucial material for crafting
Brittle Whetstone. This guide will show you where to find Brittle Quartzite and how to turn it into the whetstones you need to improve your arsenal.
How to Find Brittle Quartzite in Grounded 2
Brittle Quartzite is a deposit that can be a bit hard to come by, especially in the early stages of the game. These deposits are shiny, reddish-brown rocks that are often tucked away in less-traveled areas.
- The Hatchery Anthill: One of the best and earliest places to find Brittle Quartzite is in the Hatchery Anthill. This is a massive network of tunnels located southeast of the starting area. You'll likely visit this location during the "Egg Hunt" main quest, as it's where you find the Red Soldier Ant eggs.
- Exploring the Tunnels: The deposits can be found near the back of the anthill's tunnels, often near the walls. They can be easy to miss as they blend in with their surroundings, so keep a close eye on the ground while exploring.
- Other Locations: While the Hatchery Anthill is a great place to start, you can also find Brittle Quartzite in other caves and ant hills, as well as in areas like the flower beds and around the Picnic Table.
Important Note: Unlike many other resources in
Grounded 2, Brittle Quartzite deposits are
finite and do not respawn. This makes it crucial to explore every nook and cranny of a cave or anthill to ensure you collect all the available shards. However, as you progress further in the game, you will unlock recipes that allow you to craft Brittle Whetstones from other, more common bug parts, so you won't run out forever.
How to Collect Brittle Quartzite
Once you find a Brittle Quartzite deposit, you'll need to break it to get the shards.
- The Right Tool: To harvest Brittle Quartzite, you only need a Tier 1 Omni-Hammer. This is the most basic hammer in the game, so you won't have any trouble collecting it from the start.
How to Get Brittle Whetstone
After you've collected a decent amount of Brittle Quartzite shards, you canturn them into Brittle Whetstone, the material needed for weaponupgrades.
Craft at a Workbench: Take your Brittle Quartzite shards to a Workbench. You will find a recipe to process one shard into one Brittle Whetstone.Upgrade at a Smithing Station: Once you have your Brittle Whetstones, you'll need a Smithing Station to upgrade your weapons. The blueprint for the Smithing Station can bepurchased from the Science Shop after you progress to a certain point in the main story (usually around the "Art of War" mission). Upgrading aweapon will increase its damage and durability. Platform(s): Windows PC, Xbox Series X/S
