The Verizon 5G network is having problems finding a signal even in the two cities of initial launch.

Verizon's 5G network fast, but it barely exists

Jessica Dolcourt, CNET journalist, wanted to do the same tests for some Chicago sites and said:

"Sometimes, the 5G speeds recorded by the Speedtest.net evaluation test gave us more than 600 megabits per second of download speed that Verizon had promised me (my maximum speed was 634 Mbps)."

"Other times, it was closer to 200 Mbps, and other times, the phone said it was 5G, but it was acting like 4G."

"It was so difficult to maintain a 5G connection long enough to run the most basic tests, I had to throw those plans out the window."

And although the download results were not bad at all, the CNET journalist said: "The incredibly fast speeds in some benchmarking tests did not translate into real gains when downloading large files of applications and videos."

But the geographical limitations are not the only problem that the Verizon 5G network has, another very considerable problem, in addition, it only works with the Motorola Z3 and only when it is connected to Verizon's exclusive Moto Mod 5G accessory, simply disastrous.




In addition, he said Verizon is working on improving latency and said it will be less than 30 milliseconds.

"I would not necessarily use the coverage you're seeing now as a proxy of how it will be in a few months from now."

"There are many more 5G pieces that will be added to the system, and many of these can be done at the software level," Haberman said in an interview.

The initial release uses spectrum in the 28 GHz range, much higher than the 700 MHz spectrum that Verizon uses for 4G LTE.

There is more spectrum available in the higher frequency ranges, but radio signals are more easily blocked, meaning that 5G implementations will require more cell sites in many more locations.
