Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic delivers a haunting narrative filled with tragic twists, hidden lore, and multiple endings that reshape the FNAF universe. Among these conclusions, one offers a bittersweet resolution to the Murray family’s story—but can you unlock it?
With three possible endings, each revealing shocking truths about the Mimic and Edwin Murray’s past, players must explore every corner of the game to uncover its darkest secrets. Collectibles play a crucial role, with some endings locked behind MCM’s security system, hidden within
.exe folders at Facility terminals.
While two endings can be obtained in a single playthrough, the third—and most emotionally impactful—requires dedication. Here’s how to unlock every ending and what they mean for FNAF’s lore.
1. The Bad Ending – A Twisted Fate
How to Unlock: Simply complete the game without any extra steps.
This is the most straightforward ending and likely the first one players encounter. After finishing Dispatch’s tasks, Arnold hands over the
Data Diver and exits through the garage, expecting to go home with his reward. However, as he drives away, the
Mimic—disguised as Dispatch—attacks him.
The clues were there all along: Dispatch’s cold demeanor, insistence on upgrading the Data Diver, and apathy toward Arnold’s safety. In a cruel twist, the Mimic lures Arnold back to
Costume Manor, where he’s forcibly placed inside a prototype Freddy suit, doomed to perform alongside early versions of Bonnie and Chica.
Is this ending canon? Unlikely—but it sets the stage for darker revelations.
2. The Canon Ending – Fire and Tragedy
How to Unlock:
- Reach the final checkpoint (returning to the Security Office).
- Instead of leaving, use Parachute.exe (requires Executive access).
- Enter the hidden hatch leading to Edwin Murray’s replica of Fazbear’s Diner.
Here, players encounter
prototype animatronics (Freddy, Bonnie, Foxy, and Chica). To progress, Arnold must stand on
red spotlights (matching their original stage positions) to drain power.
Next, he meets
F10 N4—the security system of
Mimic1, revealed to be
Fiona (Edwin’s deceased wife). To proceed, players must:
- Find five Birthday Tapes hidden in Edwin’s house (one behind the stairs, two downstairs, two upstairs).
- Play them in the projector room (a safe zone) to get a color code: Green, Magenta, Blue, Red, Yellow.
Arnold activates Cradle.exe, igniting the Facility. Though he escapes, the Mimic2 pursues him, leading to a fatal crash. The Mimic survives, taking the upgraded Data Diver from Arnold’s corpse.
Why is this the likely canon ending?
- Fires are a recurring motif in FNAF lore.
- The fate of Costume Manor aligns with Fazbear Entertainment’s history.
- This may explain the Fall Fest fire, suggesting Arnold caused it—but at Edwin’s Facility instead.
3. The Secret Ending – A Bittersweet Farewell
How to Unlock:
- Find Moon.exe on any security terminal.
- Complete the text-based adventure (requires all 25 collectibles).
- Obtain the White Tiger Toy (only available in New Game+).
- Use Parachute.exe (with Glitched Permission) at the game’s end.
- Access the flashing-light room upstairs in Edwin’s house.
- Locate six Bedtime Story tapes in glitched rooms.
- Insert them into the cassette players.
- Before entering David’s room, retrieve the White Tiger Toy.
- Solve the symbol puzzle (Fox → Chicken → Alligator → Rabbit) before MK2 attacks.
In this emotional conclusion, Arnold restores the Mimic by inserting the Glitched Permission into M2 (David’s remnant). Hearing his "parents'" story, MK2 glitches, reverting to David’s lastcopied memory. No longer corrupted by
Edwin’s rage, the Mimic lies down in bed, its eyes dimming as it finally finds peace.
Why This Ending Matters:
- Provides closure for Edwin and Fiona’s tragedy.
- The Mimic’s transformation suggests redemption, not destruction.
- Hints at deeper connections between Mimic1, Mimic2, and Glitchtrap.
Which Ending is the True Conclusion?
While the canon ending ties into FNAF’s established lore, the secret ending offers the most poignant resolution—one where the Murray family’s suffering is finally put to rest. To experience the full story, players must explore every hidden detail, proving that in Five Nights at Freddy’s, even the darkest tales can have a glimmer of hope.
Will you uncover the truth behind Edwin’s legacy, or will the Mimic’s curse continue? The choice is yours.
