Phase 1: Crafting Your First Workbench
The ability to craft your base and initial tools becomes available very early in the game, tying directly into one of the first major quests.1. Unlocking the Crafting Option
The Workbench becomes available the moment you unlock the Base Construction feature during the Ground Zero quest phase. This usually happens after you meet the trader Jeff in the game.
2. Gathering the Initial Materials
To complete the Base Construction quest and set up your Workbench, you'll need basic, common materials:
- 2x Wood
- 1x Scrap Metal (This requirement may vary slightly based on your chosen difficulty mode.)
Where to Find Them:
- Wood: Your best bet is to check areas with ample scavenging opportunities. Look inside the various small sheds located near the Residential Blocks on the map.
- Scrap Metal: This is a common drop from small mechanical loot sources, or you can often purchase it from traders if you have the necessary currency.
3. Placing the Workbench
Once the materials are in your inventory and the Workbench is unlocked:
- Return to your base and open the Shelter Menu.
- Select the Workbench option.
- Craft it using the materials listed above.
- Place it anywhere you want inside your base.
The Initial Reward: With a functional Workbench, you instantly gain access to essential, basic blueprints, including water filters, normal ammunition, and scrap tools.
Phase 2: Upgrading to Advanced Progression II
Your first Workbench is just the beginning. Jeff will immediately give you a follow-up quest asking you to upgrade it. This first upgrade opens up a crucial tier of blueprints.
1. Identifying the Materials
The materials needed for this first major upgrade are readily available and can often be found by dismantling common items.
- Circuit Boards
- Bolts and Metal Plates
- Light Bulbs and Plastic
Scavenging Tip: These materials are relatively easy to find in most loot containers. For Plastic, specifically, you can consistently obtain it by dismantling empty water bottles or other discarded plastic items you find during your raids.
2. Executing the Upgrade
Once you have gathered the required components (and have them in your base storage), return to your Workbench:
- 4x Wood
- 2x Steel
- 1x Circuit Board
Congratulations! You have successfully upgraded your Workbench.
Phase 3: The Payoff and Future Planning
The successful upgrade to Advanced Progression II brings immediate andtangible benefits that significantly enhance your raiding experience.
- New Blueprints Unlocked: You immediately gain access to a brand-new set of blueprints, often including items like the Fishing Rod (great for passive food supply), crucial Weapon Modifications, and other specialized tools.
- The Continuous Cycle: Do not stop here. Now that you know the method—accept the upgrade quest, scavenge the required components, and spend the final materials—you must keep upgrading your Workbench to unlock better, more exclusive items that higher-level raiders rely on.
The Storage Reminder
High-tier crafting requires exponentially more and more complex materials. As you progress through the Workbench tiers, you'll accumulate massive amounts of resources.
- Crucial Base Upgrade: Always remember to expand the storage capacity at your base. If your storage is constantly full, you won't be able to hold thenecessary bulk materials to craft the advanced items your newly upgraded Workbench can produce.
Mastering the Workbench upgradepath is mastering resource management, making it an undeniable necessity for long-term survival in Escape From Duckov.
