The Scadutree Avatar is among the bosses that really could have been very powerful but ends up being a frustrating mess. Its mechanics aren't really that complex, but it messes up in the execution of these. Irregular movement patterns and hitboxes that are anything but reliable take what was intended to be a challenging fight and turn it into an exercise in patience. It provides an interesting contrast to the otherwise well-balanced encounters Elden Ring has in store. While not quite reaching the top tier of frustration that comes with being the final boss in this DLC, the Scadutree Avatar still brings about a considerable amount of frustration upon players. With all this considered, though, there are some working strategies and equipment choices that may minimize the pains of this boss somewhat and get you to victory.
How to Get the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
The Scadutree Avatar represents an interesting Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree paradox—although from a strictly technical standpoint, the botanist avatar will be easier to defeat compared to the other late-game enemies, its encounter most definitely does not become too straightforward. The boss is aggressive, and the attacks and combos launched are very strong and devastating. This turns what could have been a rather routine fight with the Scadutree Avatar into a really tiring exercise in player skill and endurance. The worse is, there are three phases of the Scadutree Avatar that are completely different, with full restoration of health; the fight is atrociously long, needing not to blink an eye or flinch from Tarnished, and adapt.
The Scadutree Avatar's most formidable challenge would come in the form of its constantly evolving moveset. The boss adds completely new attacks as the battle progresses through its multiple phases, compounding the strategic burden on the player. Many such attacks have fairly long wind-up times, allowing a thin chance of dodging but greatly maximizing damage potential. Some even come with the Bleed status effect, piling on the pressure and requiring proper health management.
Fortunately for us, the Scadutree Avatar's offensive prowess is balanced by its defensive shortcomings. A disparity like this opens the door for players who know what they're doing to exploit the boss's weaknesses and emerge victorious. Key among these is a marked weakness to fire damage. Exploiting this weakness can go a long way toward making the encounter easier. In this case, something as simple as applying Messmerfire Grease could be invaluable in overwhelming the Scadutree Avatar and securing victory.

Talismans

- Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman
- Claw Talisman
- Two-Headed Turtle Talisman
Incantations
- Golden Vow
- Black Flame's Protection
- Beastial Vitality
- Flame, Grant Me Strength
Armor
This build will work well on jump attacks that could directly hit the Scadutree Avatar's head. With the rest of its body vulnerable to damage, it still makes a lot of difference when you can land a critical hit on the head in terms of efficiently depleting an enemy's life. So be patient and always look for maximum opportunities to use a fully charged jump attack, target the head, and use those opportunities to better your chances against such a difficult opponent.
This milks any downtime between the respawns of the Scadutree Avatar very well for maximum damage output. At this point, you would want to put potent buffs on your weapon with Cragblade and Messmerfire Grease for bonus offensive capabilities. More than that, however, the boss himself is going to be highly vulnerable to Bleed damage, so Great Stars will be quite formidable. Bleed buildup from this weapon synergizes well with the above-mentioned buffs, creating quite a strong damage combination. For the more defensive playstyle, shield-spear will really help players. With a more substantial shield and a versatile spear, such as Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear, it is capable of returning very respectable damage while heavily mitigating incoming damage. This will turn what otherwise would have been a fairly challenging encounter into a manageable one—a fight that can be controlled strategically rather than maniacally defended.
