How To Get Aspect of the Crucible: Thorns in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?


  • Defeat the Golden Hippo guarding the entrance to Shadow Keep in Shadow of the Erdtree.
  • You can reach the Golden Hippo by taking the elevator from the main gate of Shadow Keep and then resting at the Site of Grace at the Main Gate of Shadow Keep.
  • Once defeated, the Golden Hippo will reward you with the Crucible Aspect: Thorns enchantment and two Scadutree Fragments.

Enchantment Features


  • Faith Requirement: 27
  • FP Cost: 20
  • Effect: The character summons thorns from their back in all directions.

Tips for Fighting the Golden Hippo


  • The Golden Hippo is a slow but powerful boss. Its main attacks are a mouth grab and a head smash attack.
  • Dodge its attacks by rolling to the side.
  • Be careful when its HP is close to 50%, as thorns will grow from its back and its moveset will expand.
  • You can use a summon like Mimic Tear or Redmane Freyja to help you in the fight.
  • A bleed build or a stance breaking build can be effective against the Golden Hippo.
  • Aspect of the Crucible: Thorns is a powerful enchantment that can be useful for clearing out groups of enemies.

However, it requires a high Faith and FP requirement to use, so it is only suitable for characters with Faith-based builds.
