Phase 1: Hunting for Secret Letters

The key to unlocking any new unit is acquiring their specific Character Secret Letters. Each letter is unique and permanently tied to a single character in the game, meaning you must target your farming efforts precisely.

1. Gathering Secret Letter Clues

Character Secret Letters are not found whole; they are pieced together by accumulating Secret Letter Clues. These clues are the common currency of character progression and can be acquired through most activities in Duet Night Abyss.

• Daily Progression: The most reliable source is completing your Daily Commissions and advancing through the main story quests. These often yield guaranteed clues.
• Deep Grinding: You can also earn clues by working through side quests and by simply farming regular enemies in dungeons. Since the game lacks a stamina system, you can repeat these farming runs indefinitely.

2. Converting Clues into Letters

Once you have gathered enough Clues, you can convert them into the specific Secret Letter required for your chosen character.

• The Shop Exchange: After discovering 10 Clues, head over to the in-game shop. Here, you can use your hard-earned clues to directly purchase the Secret Letter you desire.
• Unlocking New Options: If you can’t find the character you’re looking for in the standard shop exchange, you may need to unlock their Secret Letter first. This is often achieved by completing the Immersive Theater and Nocturnal Echoes activities, which expand the pool of available characters in the shop.

Phase 2: Completing the Covert Commission

Once you have secured a Secret Letter for a character, the next step is to open it by participating in Covert Commissions. These short, cycling missions are the direct pathway to acquiring the necessary Thoughts required for recruitment.

1. Engaging in Covert Commissions

Covert Commissions are quick, rewarding missions that unlock early in the game. They aretime-gated, cycling on an hourly basis, so check back frequently.

• The Goal: Pick a Secret Letter you own, kick off the corresponding Covert Commission, and complete the activity. Success earns you Thoughts—the specific emotional currency required for recruitment.

2. Understanding Thought Rewards

The rewards you receive upon completing a Covert Commission are tiered,with the highest tier granting the most crucial resources:

• Gold Tier: Awards the maximum amount of 10 Thoughts.
• Silver Tier: Grants a moderate amount of 2 Thoughts.
• Bronze Tier: Awards Character EXP Materials (useful for leveling, but not for recruitment).

To minimize your grinding time, aim for Gold Tier completion wheneverpossible. Since the highest reward grants 10 Thoughts, you willtypically need to complete only three successful Gold Tier commissionsto recruit a character.

3. Final Recruitment: Using Reminiscience
