Within Dragon Quest 3, the Words of Wisdom scroll is a lifesaver for it allows the ability to morph one of your party members into the Sage profession. The sages are the most powerful professions in Dragon Quest 3 as they can learn more spells than any other class.
Well, when Dragon Quest 3 first hit in 1988, there was but one location where you could find the single, solitary Words of Wisdom scroll. During the 2001 re-release on Game Boy Advance, a second scroll of words of wisdom had been inserted in a different location.
Fortunately, this extra scroll remains in the 2D-HD remake of Dragons Quest 3, so by the time you reach the final boss, you can have a team consisting of two Sages.
Dragon Quest 3: All Words of Wisdom Scroll Locations
The two Words of Wisdom scrolls in Dragon Quest 3 are spaced out with regards to both terrain and the current level of your player character. In fact, you can pick up the first one really early on in the game, even before gathering the Black Pepper you need to buy a ship off of the King of Portoga. It isn't until the late game, once you've made your way to Alefgard, that you'll be able to pick up the second.
Elevation to the Pinnacle Scroll with Wise Words
To get this first scroll, you need to head to the Tower of Transcendence. If you've never been there before, you can fast-travel to Alltrades Abbey using the Zoom spell or a Chimaera Wing; from there, head north along the mountain tunnel.
The Tower of Transcendence can be tricky to find one's way through, being a labyrinth mostly filled with dead ends and Teleportals. Although we do have step-by-step, here's a quick bullet-point method to get you through the Tower of Transcendence to find that scroll with the Words of Wisdom:
- Go up the flight of steps in the top left of the ground level.
- Off tightrope and down the other flights of stairs.
- Up the centre stairs using the teleportal
- North on swiss curve
- Up the north stairway
- Up the southbound twisted stairway
- Jump down after balancing halfway across the tightrope
- Leap from opening in ceiling
- For the Words of Wisdom scroll, go down the stairs and continue on east
- Sword of Rimuldar Wisdom
There is no elaborate system to traverse in order to acquire this scroll, as it is infinitely easier to get. You will still need to wait in some places to have it, though. The second scroll with words of wisdom will become available after you have gained entry to Alefgard later in the game.
Head toward Rimuldar and proceed north. You can see two conjoined houses in the northern part of Rimuldar. The left house is worthy to be entered, having some crucial and valuable items. To get the Words of Wisdom scroll, though, you need to get it from the right house.
There's an interactive dresser in the house. Opening the drawer will yield the second, and final, Words of Wisdom scroll in the Dragon Quest 3 2D-HD remake. You can now head back to Alltrades Abbey and change another party member into a different Sage. But, before you pull the trigger consider the implications of such a move.
