Today we bring you an explanatory guide on How to Change Abilities in Dragon Age The Veilguard with precise details.

Dragon Age The Veilguard's early chapters teach players the ropes of the game. On the other hand, they gloss over or don't even mention a few elements altogether. From there, most players should be able to figure it out, but some might struggle.

Some aspects in Dragon Age The Veilguard, including ability shifting, might use greater explanation. Filling up some of the gaps, this tutorial will show you how to trade skills and abilities with Rook and his friends, and how to level up their powers.

Dragon Age The Veilguard: How to Change Abilities

You can level up your skills in the Skills tab, but to change them, you have to go to the Character tab. Listed beneath your character on this tab should be the icon for each current ability. You can switch between them by clicking on them.

  • A white outline indicates the skills you presently have equipped.
  • You won't need to return to the Character menu to switch ability slots.
  • You can put your ultimate ability in the fourth space. The fourth slot is reserved for various ultimate abilities.
  • Keep in mind that shifting your talents during battle is not an option. While your weapons are out, you can't use the Character tab to modify your equipment or skills. Your best bet if your loadout isn't optimal for a certain battle is to get out of there, change your gear, and then return.

Trading Companion Abilities

Just like you can modify Rook's powers, you can change a companion's as well. The key distinction is that you'll need to go to the Companions tab and pick each friend one by one.

There are three powers that deal damage, one that heals, and one that boosts for each partner. In addition to their normally active non-combat ability, they get a unique benefit from their primary weapon when you command it to "Attack My Target." Lastly, they all have a unique "Hero of the Veilguard" ability that you'll be able to access in the latter stages.

  • The cooldown period does not only apply to the ability you used, but to all of your companions' abilities.
  • A few allies begin with less than five skills. As you complete the main story quests, they will receive the remaining items.
  • You can only alter your allies' skills and gear when they are not in battle, just like Rook.

Ability Sustainment

Rook and buddy skill trees are diametrically opposed. You may earn points for them from a variety of ways, and they all have unique shapes to boot.

  • As Rook completes challenges, kills foes, and completes tasks, he gets skill points. By taking them on missions they care about and selecting dialogue options they agree with, you can strengthen your friendship with your companion and get skill points.
  • Nodes next to active upgrades allow Rook to acquire talents, passives, and new abilities. Each of a companion's abilities has its own ability tree.
  • Rook has a limited skill tree from which to choose, but all of their abilities are accessible at all times. There are a number of companion improvements, and picking one will prevent you from getting the others.
  • For example, after investing two points into Fade Bolts, Bellara has the option to channel her courage into either Veiled Courage (which doubles the Stagger effect) or Direct Current (which deals Shocked to opponents nearby). You aren't obligated to select either improvement, but doing so will prevent you from selecting the other.

Compared to their allies, Rook's advancements are more subtle. Control, Projectile, Blast, Strike, Duration, Area, and so on are all abilities that can be represented by one or two types. If an ability in the skill tree has an upgrade, that upgrade will affect all abilities of that type. Take Arcane Shot, for example. It's the initial skill for mages and it comes with two abilities: Blast and Projectile. So, you can enhance it with Bombastic (Blast), Veil Blasts, Multiplicity, and Supercharged (Projectile).

Finally, it's always free to return your skill points if you change your mind. To refund them one by one, just click on the active node; or, to refund them all at once, use the button on the bottom left of the screen. The one and only restriction is that nodes cannot be refunded if they are dependent on other active nodes.

Finally, now that we know How to Change Abilities in Dragon Age The Veilguard we will have to apply it to continue improving in this great game.
