In certain cases, players must track down a specific "secret key" to gain access to these hidden treasures. If you're struggling to locate the elusive secret key in Chapter 17, this guide will pinpoint its location and explain where to use it.

Where to Find the Secret Key in Chapter 17

While Chapter 17 itself isn't exceptionally long, it offers numerous hiding spots for items. To save yourself time and frustration, focus your search near the end of the level.

• Audio Cue: You'll know you're close to the key's location when you hear the Witch say, "Prepare the sacrifice."
• Location: Once you hear this ominous phrase, while facing the temple, turn to the left. You should spot the remains of an old ship. Approach this shipwreck, collect the gold nearby, and then head to the door on the shipwreck itself. The secret key will be found in this vicinity.

Where to Use the Secret Key in Chapter 17

In some levels of Doom: The Dark Ages, a single secret key can unlock multiple inaccessible doors. However, in Chapter 17, the secret key opens only one specific door. Fortunately, this door is not far from where you acquire the key, minimizing backtracking.

• Location: In the same area where you found the key, but before you approach the temple, you will find a Sentinel Shrine. This shrine has a gate that is specifically opened by the secret key.
• Activation: Simply approach the gate, and it will automatically open, granting you access to the hidden room.
• Reward: The only item to find within this chamber is a Ruby. You won't need to solve any additional puzzles, such as manipulating wolf statues as in previous chapters, to claim it.
• Finality: As mentioned, this is the sole secret that requires the use of thesecret key in Chapter 17. Once you've claimed the Ruby and any othercollectibles in the area, you are free to proceed to the next chapter.
