Go south until you spot a fish in a pond.

From the pond, travel left.

Continue south for two screens.

Then, head east.

Followed by south one last time.

Finally, descend the staircase.

At the end of this staircase, you'll discover the sword. Pick it up to arm yourself and begin the process of clearing enemies.
