The first thing you have to do is talk to an NPC in the game and complete a quest. The NPC is the marine biologist Ling. When you start playing, she will send you a letter, and you will have to meet her at the beach pier to learn more about diving.

Follow the diving sign to find her and when you find her she will give you a diving suit, so you can start. So head to the ladder that goes to the boat and go down into the water.

Once underwater, you will have many activities to do, including cleaning the seabed, activating Solar Orbs, collecting seaweed and debris, among others. As you progress through the game, you will receive more cards from Ling, asking you to perform tasks underwater.

Underwater, Kibbles, the dive assistant, will let you know when you're low on energy or when it's time to turn back before you get your penalty for the night. To return to the shore, you will have to go to the anchor, and you can go back up.
