Completing the main story of Borderlands 4 is just the beginning of your journey as a Vault Hunter. While the endgame offers plenty of content, true warriors seek the ultimate test of their skills and gear. That challenge comes in the form of the escalating Ultimate Vault Hunter (UVH) difficulty modes.
Unlocking each successive tier of UVH is the key to facing deadlier enemies and earning the game's most powerful legendary loot. This guide will walk you through the exact requirements to unlock Ultimate Vault Hunter 2, pushing your build to its limits.


Prerequisites: Gearing Up for the Grind


Before you can even think about UVH 2, you must first lay the groundwork. You cannot access any Ultimate Vault Hunter mode without first finishing the main campaign. Once the credits roll, Ultimate Vault Hunter 1 (UVH 1) becomes available directly from your Session Settings menu.
Crucial Point: You must complete all the necessary challenges for UVH 2 while playing on UVH 1 difficulty. Progress made on lower difficulty settings will not count toward the unlock conditions.


The Four Key Challenges: Prove Your Mettle


To unlock the gate to UVH 2, you must first prove your combat prowess by defeating four formidable bosses within the UVH 1 environment. These are not simple tasks; each enemy will be significantly stronger than their normal mode counterparts.

The specific challenges you need to complete are:


  • Bio-Break: Locate and eliminate the monstrous Bio-Bulkhead.
  • Song’s Over: Hunt down and silence the treacherous Bramblesong.
  • Omega 86’d: Take on the colossal Bio Armored Omega Thresher and emerge victorious.
  • No Points Awarded: Put an end to the menace of Sydney Pointylegs.


    • Tracking these challenges can typically be done from your in-game mission log or challenge tracker. Focus on taking down these targets one by one tosteadily progress toward your goal.


    The Final Test: Conquer the Wildcard Mission


    After you have triumphed over all four bosses, the final step to unlockingUVH 2 is to complete a special Wildcard mission. This mission will notappear until all the prerequisite challenges are fulfilled.


  • Receive the Mission: Once the four boss kills are confirmed, head to Sanctuary III and speak with Lilith at Moxxi's Bar. She will provide you with the critical Wildcard mission, "Rush the Gate."
  • Complete the Mission: This mission is designed to be a culminating challenge for UVH 1.Prepare for a tough fight and embark on the mission objective.
  • Claim Your Reward: Upon successfully completing "Rush the Gate," you will receive an on-screen notification confirming that Ultimate Vault Hunter 2 has been unlocked.


    • Switching to UVH 2 and Next Steps


    With UVH 2 unlocked, you can activate it at any time. Simply pause the game, navigate to the Session Settings menu, and select UVH 2 from the difficulty options. Congratulations!You have now entered a new tier of mayhem where enemies are even morepunishing, but the loot rewards are substantially greater.
