Black Ops 6 sees the reintroduction of the AS VAL, an underappreciated but devastating assault rifle, continuing Call of Duty's trend of introducing new weapons while reintroducing old ones for nostalgic reasons. In 2020, at the very end of Modern Warfare's year, the AS VAL was released as a seasonal gun. It continued to find some usage in Warzone after Black Ops Cold War premiered, and now it's back in BO6 as a permanent weapon. However, the AS VAL is now back in its own game, and players may choose to consider Prestige-ing with a Permanent Unlock token for this late-game unlock (it doesn't unlock until level 55).

There are a lot of reasons why the AS VAL is a fascinating weapon. This assault rifle has the feel and functionality of a submachine gun, with the added bonus of a suppressor already installed. This means that only one attachment slot is required. Our loadout transforms it into a hybrid assault rifle/submachine gun that can nimbly move around close quarters while still holding its own farther away.
In my opinion, the AS VAL is not enough of a base weapon. Its recoil and fire rate make it a bad choice for long-range employment, and its mobility, which is similar to that of an assault rifle, makes it vulnerable to close quarters engagements with SMGs. Accordingly, this configuration makes it somewhat of a hybrid with respect to any one weapon class. Recoil Control, a major concern with the AS VAL due to its extremely rapid fire rate, is just as crucial as bullet velocity and damage range. Recoil Springs, Suppressed Reinforced Barrel, and Vertical Foregrip do a good job of reducing these problems. The Ergonomic Grip is a mobility-enhancing accessory that makes any weapon it's fastened to feel more nimble. Up close, you won't have a chance against a top SMG like the Jackal PDW due to your lack of dodging ability, but you might be able to win through sheer damage. If you'd want to use a different card in this build instead of the Gunfighter Wildcard, you can run the AS VAL as an iron sights AR designed for use at mid-range by swapping out the Recoil Springs and Optic slot.
Affordability and course arrangement
Since the AS VAL always has a suppressor, I take advantage of its stealth capabilities and run the Recon Perk Specialty to wreak havoc. While Ninja will make your footsteps less noticeable, Ghost will let you stay one step ahead of the opposing team's UAV spam so you can sneak up on them for the kill.

Weapon Configuration:
- Barrel: Suppressed Reinforced Barrel (Reduces noise and recoil)
- Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip (Improves vertical recoil control)
- Magazine: Extended Mag II (Increases ammunition capacity)
- Rear Grip: Ergonomic Grip (Improves slide speed, dive speed, and ADS speed)
