The
American Truck Simulator (ATS) 1.55 update has brought new customization options for the Kenworth T680, but many players are experiencing game crashes when attempting to customize this truck. This issue isn't directly caused by the new game additions, but rather by
mod conflicts, specifically with older or now-removed mods that previously affected the T680. Even if a mod has been deactivated or removed from the Steam Workshop, its lingering data in your save game can cause crashes in the garage or paint shop. Here's a breakdown of the problem and the recommended solutions:
Fix ATS 1.55 Crashing When Customizing Kenworth T680
The crashes occur because your save game still holds references to parts or accessories from mods that are no longer present or compatible with ATS 1.55. When the game tries to load these "missing" modded components during customization, it encounters an error and crashes. This is particularly prevalent if you had accessories packs or truck parts mods installed in ATS 1.54 (or earlier) that modified the T680, and those mods are now outdated, incompatible, or have been removed from the Steam Workshop.
How to Fix the Kenworth T680 Customization Crash
There are two primary methods to resolve this issue:
1. Downgrade Truck & Remove Mods (Most Reliable Method)
This method involves reverting your game version, cleaning your truck, and then updating back to the current version. It's a bit more involved but is often reported as the most reliable fix.
Steps:Downgrade to ATS 1.54:- Open Steam.
- Right-click on "American Truck Simulator" in your Steam Library.
- Select "Properties."
- Go to the "Betas" tab.
- In the dropdown list, select version 1.54 (or the most recent stable version prior to 1.55). The game will then download and update to this older version.
Load Your Save Game in 1.54:- Launch ATS 1.54.
- Load the save game profile that contains your problematic Kenworth T680.
Remove Modded Parts from the T680:- Head to a truck dealer or your garage.
- Access your Kenworth T680 that was causing crashes.
- Crucially, remove any and all modded parts or accessories you had previously added to it. Try to revert as many parts as possible to stock options.
- If you still have the old, bugged mod in your Mod Manager, deactivate it and delete it from your game files. Ensure it's completely gone from your Documents\American Truck Simulator\mod folder.
- Save the game after removing the modded parts. It's also a good idea to ensure any other trucks that might have had parts from the problematic mod also have those parts removed or reverted.
Revert to ATS 1.55:- Go back to Steam.
- Right-click on "American Truck Simulator" in your Library.
- Select "Properties."
- Go to the "Betas" tab.
- Select "None" or "Opt out of all beta programs" (which will revert you to the latest public version, 1.55). The game will then update.
Test in ATS 1.55:- Launch ATS 1.55 and load your save game.
- You should now be able to customize your Kenworth T680 without the game crashing.
2. Use a Console Command (Less Complex, but May Not Always Work)
Donate: buy me a coffeeThis method attempts to automatically remove missing components. It's quicker, but its effectiveness can vary depending on the severity andnature of the mod conflict.
Method A: In-Game Console Command
Load Your Game Profile: Start ATS 1.55 normally and load your game profile.Open Console: Press the ~ key (the tilde key, usually below Esc) to open the game console command.Enter Command (Enable Removal): Type g_remove_missing_accessories 1 and press Enter.Manually Reload Save: After entering the command, manually reload the save game you are currently playing. Do not exit to the main menu and reload; use the in-game "Load Game" option.Enter Command (Disable Removal): Once the game reloads, reopen the console (~ key) and type g_remove_missing_accessories 0 and hit Enter. This disables the auto-removal for future loads.Save Game: Save your game. The problematic accessories should now be removed.Method B: Edit Config File (Alternative Console Command)
This method directly modifies your profile's configuration file to apply the command on load.
Locate Profile Config File:- Navigate to your ATS profile folder. This is typically found at:C:\Users\[Your_Username]\Documents\American Truck Simulator\profiles\[Your_Profile_ID](The [Your_Profile_ID] will be a long string of numbers and letters.)
Open config.cfg: Inside your profile folder, find the config.cfg file and open it with a plain text editor (like Notepad).Add the Line: Scroll to the bottom of the config.cfg file and add the following line:g_remove_missing_accessories 1Save and Exit: Save the config.cfg file and close the text editor.Load Game: Launch ATS 1.55 and load your save game profile. Upon loading, the game will automatically remove accessories with invalid data from all ownedtrucks. The Line Disappears: After you save or exit the game, the g_remove_missing_accessories 1 line usually disappears from the config.cfg file automatically. If it doesn't, you can manually remove it.Important Considerations:
- Backup Your Save: Before attempting any of these fixes, especially the downgrade method, it's always a good idea to back up your ATS save game files. You can find your save files in the same profile directory mentioned above.
- Mod Compatibility: Always ensure your active mods are updated for the current game version (1.55). Outdated mods are a frequent cause of issues.
- Reduce Mod Count: If you have a very large number of mods (e.g., over 100), considerreducing the amount. While the game can handle many, a high volume ofmods increases the likelihood of conflicts and makes troubleshootingmuch more difficult.
