How To Get The Hero's Sword in Zelda The Wind Waker

In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Link begins his grand adventure not as the seasoned hero, but as a simple village boy on Outset Island, on the cusp of his coming-of-age ceremony where he's meant to don the Hero's green garb. However, fate intervenes, and he finds himself without a sword when a monstrous bird snatches his sister, Aryll, and drops a girl into the forest high above the island. To even begin his investigation, Link needs a weapon.Later in his perilous journey, Link will once again find himself disarmed upon his arrival at the infamous Forsaken Fortress. This guide will walk you through the initial steps of acquiring your very first sword in The Wind Waker's prologue and then detail the challenging process of retrieving your lost blade within the formidable walls of the Forsaken Fortress.

Zelda The Wind Waker: How To Get The Hero's Sword

At the very start of your adventure, as Link gazes through his brand-new telescope, a terrifying sight unfolds: a gigantic bird plucks a girl from the village and drops her into the densely forested area high above Outset Island. Your immediate goal is to investigate, but a thicket of trees blocks the path into the forest, requiring a sharp blade to pass.

Seek Out Orca: To obtain a sword, The Wind Waker players should head directly to Orca's house. You'll find it beneath the porch where an old man with a large head, Orca himself, beckons you to talk to him.

Learn the Ways of the Sword: Walk into Orca's house and engage with the village swordsman, Orca, who will kindly offer to teach Link the fundamental ways of sword combat.

Complete the Tutorial: Participate in this brief melee combat tutorial. Orca will guide you through basic slashes, spins, and dodges.

Receive the Hero's Sword: Upon successfully completing the tutorial, The Wind Waker players will be permanently awarded the Hero's Sword.

Access the Forest: With your new sword in hand, head back to the east side of town and walk up the hill. Use your newly acquired blade to slash at the obstructing trees to cut them down, then continue into the woods above Outset Island to begin your investigation.

How To Retrieve Your Sword In The Forsaken Fortress

After your initial encounter with theformidable pirate Tetra and her crew, Link is brought aboard their shipand eventually launched from a cannon directly into the walls of theimposing Forsaken Fortress. Unfortunately, due to the impact of thisunconventional entry, Link is disarmed, losing his precious Hero'sSword.

To retrieve your sword, youmust navigate the treacherous interior of the Forsaken Fortress. Thissection relies heavily on using makeshift weapons and leveraging stealth mechanics to reach the high-up location where Link's sword fell.

Enter the Spotlight Plaza: Start by walking into the large, open plaza illuminated by sweepingsearchlights. You'll need to move carefully to avoid detection.

Utilize Barrels for Stealth: If you spot any barrels, pick one up and hold it over your head. This provides a temporarydisguise, allowing you to walk past patrolling enemies or throughspotlights without being immediately detected. However, be cautious: ifany enemy or spotlight perceives the barrel itself moving suspiciously,or if you bump into an enemy, you will still be caught.

Disable the First Searchlight:

• Carefully make your way towards the stairs on your right.
• Follow the ramp upwards and climb the ladder to the searchlight platform.
• Break the nearby pot to find sticks, pick one up, and use it to defeat the Bokoblin that mans this searchlight.
• Once defeated, this searchlight will permanently point into the sky, eliminating a threat to a crucial path you must use later.

Navigate the Interior and Disable More Searchlights:

• Go back down the ramp and continue into the main building.
• You'll encounter a gap; jump onto the rope swinging across, then continue across to reach the other side and collect the Dungeon Map in the adjacent room.
• Exit this room to the left, and defeat another Bokoblin to disable a second searchlight, clearing another path.
• Continue across this upper level of the interior Forsaken Fortress until you reach another area requiring a swing across a gap.
• Go into the next room, climb the ladder on the side of the exterior walkway, and defeat this final Bokoblin to turn off the last searchlight, making your onward journey safer.

Stealth Past the Moblins:

• After disabling all the searchlights, continue through the Forsaken Fortress until you enter a room with two patrolling Moblin enemies. These are larger, more dangerous foes.
• Pick up another barrel and slowly and carefully make your way toward the stairs and the exit door on the right side of the room.
• Be extremely cautious: if you get too close to a Moblin while moving, orif you enter its direct patrol path, you will be caught and sent to thedungeon's jail, forcing you to make your way back from there.

Claim Your Sword:

• Once you successfully navigate past the Moblins, continue up the stairs.
• You'll likely encounter another Moblin shortly after; use a barrel once again to avoid detection and slip past it.
• Continue climbing the stairs, and at the top, you will finally find the high-up location where Link's sword fell.
• Pick up the Hero's Sword from the ground. With your blade in hand, you'll be ready to face theenemies in the immediate area. Defeat them and continue your progression through the Forsaken Fortress, now fully armed and prepared.
