From the valley floor, you can access more grappling points with Launch Piton Unlocking Devices, which act as quest checkpoints as you ascend. There are a lot of traps and ways to fall back down the valley, therefore you should always use a Launch Piton Unlocking Device when you find one.

Until you reach the shattered tower, continue climbing. Get through the hole in the wall by using the Dash Morph and then follow the trail leading up. Jump up to the next sloping platform from where the fire totem shoots from the corner of the current platform. Keep in mind that the fire totem's flames can still harm you, even if your character model appears to be safe from them.
