Remastered for current platforms, including PC, Tales of Graces f has been around since its console outing back in 2010. Fortunately, modder Lyall didn't take too long to rectify this, and a patch that natively supports ultrawide displays in Tales of Graces f Remastered is already out there.
How To Fix the Tales of Graces f Remastered Ultrawide?
Thanks to a patch by the member of widescreen PC community named Lyall, Tales of Graces f Remastered is now ultrawide compatible and no longer sports pillarboxing in its ultrawide presentation.
As always, it's very easy to install these patches:
- First things first, close the game of Tales of Graces f Remastered from your computer.
- Head over to this GitHub link and find the most updated patch, which should be 0.0.3 for the writing of this.
- Find the download of the TalesOfGracesFFix_v0.0.3.zip file within the assets folder for the patch.
Drag out the zip file within the installation folder for the game; the default address via Steam would look like this: steamappscommon:A Remastered Version of Tales of Graces
It's really that easy. Lyall has provided a screenshot of the patch in action.
You can see that the minimap has been shrunk down to make room, and that the pillarboxing-the black bars-have vanished. Since more of the game world will be generated and displayed, performance might take a bit of a hit. Considering the minimal system requirements, though, it shouldn't be too dramatic.
This patch brings a few more features besides ultrawide support.
- There's a performance cost to using MSAA, but it's a far better form of anti-aliasing.
- Another option is to disable depth of field within the game itself.
These options can be accessed after you have once launched the game, by editing the TalesOfGracesFFix.cfg file (with a text editor such as Notepad). Here is where you may find it in the installation folder of Tales of Graces f Remastered:
Special credits to Lyall for creating and testing the patch; credits go to Lyall. If releases like Thank Goodness You're Here, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, or Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut have ever hit the store this year, one fact emerges: their effort is priceless.
In a small size update from Lyall that addresses framerate limiting stutters, he also did an upgraded Special K enhancing the PlayStation controller functionalities and adding so much-needed polish to it.
Bar a few minor quibbles, Bandai Namco Entertainment has once again done a great job of remastering JPRGs that had become mired in the PS3 limbo. Devs really should continue to patch out these tiny faults and glitches in the game, so here's hoping they do just that.
