The update 1.5 added the Ginger Island region to Stardew Valley, along with several new crops, including the Taro Tubers. They grow into Taro Roots, one of the most valuable materials to work with in different in-game activities. However, unlike most of the other crops, Taro Tubers can't be bought at the general store in Pierre's or Joja Mart. This walkthrough will describe how to get the Taro Tubers in Stardew Valley, starting from version 1.5 onward.

How to Get Taro Tuber in Stardew Valley?

Taro Tubers are a special crop that one can only see on Ginger Island, which becomes available after completing either the Community Center or Joja Mart. Acquiring Taro Tubers requires some effort and time in exploration but is well worth the prize.

Various ways of reaping the Taro Tubers include the following:

  • Items can be obtained by defeating Tiger Slimes. This fearsome monster can be found inside Volcano and around the Farm area. It has a drop for Taro Tubers whenever it is defeated.
  • Golden Coconuts can be scavenged. These types of coconuts may sometimes be lying on Ginger Island. Breaking it up with an axe will reward the player with a Taro Tubers and other useful items.
  • Weeding in the Jungle: The thick Jungle on Ginger Island is full of weeds that can be weeded with a sickle, sometimes revealing Taro Tubers after a cut. Artifact Spots and Panning: There is a lot of artifact spots and panning spots all over the Ginger Island. Additionally, searching around them may reveal some hidden Taro Tubers underground or within riverbeds.
  • Lionfish Ponds: Keeping a Lionfish Pond with four of these fish in it has a small possibility of rewarding you with Taro Tubers as one of the products from this pond. Buy from the Island Trader: If you have given the Island Trader 10 Golden Walnuts, he will allow you to purchase Taro Tubers from him for two Bone Fragments each. It's a good source in terms of receiving consistent Taro Tubers but will have a cost in the resources needed.

Taro Tubers: A Crop Useful during Summer

Taro Tubers are a valuable crop that can be added to any farmer's inventory when summer hits. Grown on Ginger Island after its access is unlocked with Golden Walnuts, they have several uses and benefits.

Planting and Harvesting

  • Season to Plant: This is the summer season.
  • Time to Grow: It takes almost 10 days for the tubers to mature but will be sooner if irrigation or Speed-Gro fertilizer is used.
  • Harvesting: Taro Tubers are unlike Rice Shoots in that once they are planted near sources of water, it is not necessary to continually water them.

Uses and Benefits

  • Cooking: Poi is a recipe that is acquired from Leo; it requires Taro Tubers as an ingredient and is a critical component of many cookware adventures.
  • Fishponds: Some of the Blue Discus' fishponds will require Taro Tubers as part of their resource to expand their populations.
  • Special Orders: Caroline will sometimes be calling out for large volumes of Taro Tubers to use in special projects.
  • Tailor Crafting: Taro Tubers can also be processed into items that are useful and pleasing to the eye in the form of shirts and belts.

Beyond the Basics

  • Gift-Giving: Always gladly taken in by any player, it is almost invariably more rewarding to utilize Taro Tubers for their real-life purposes.
  • Long-Term Preparation: Be sure that you begin rearing your Taro Tubers way ahead of time for cooking, fishpond, or an arriving special order.
