Soulmask is the latest in a series of very popular survival games of 2024, and like the others, if you want to play on a private online server, you'll have to take matters into your own hands. Luckily, setting up a dedicated server for this game doesn't seem to be as tedious as the process has been for other games in the past. However, the nature of the beast makes this process far from intuitive, so you'll still need to follow the instructions carefully.

How to Set up a Dedicated Server for Soulmask?

To run a dedicated server, you must first download SteamCMD, which is essentially a version of the Steam launcher that allows you to enter your own command lines. When downloading as a .zip file, create a new folder anywhere on your drive to extract the file to once the download is complete. Once you've extracted the contents into the new folder, you can begin setting up SteamCMD to host your Soulmask server.

Use the Windows search bar to search for "cmd", this will open the command line program. Run the program, type "cd", then copy and paste the path to the file you created for the .zip. For example, I created a folder called "SteamCMD" in Documents, so my full command line is: cd C:UsersusernameDocumentsSteamCMD

Your path will likely be different; the easiest way to make sure everything goes smoothly is to simply copy and paste the folder path directly from File Explorer. If the command line successfully launches Steamcmd, you'll be able to enter new lines of code. If this doesn't work, you'll get a "path could not be determined" option, which means something went wrong with the file path you entered after the CD. Once you've successfully launched Steamcmd and entered additional commands, copy and paste the following line: steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 3017310 validate +quit

This line isn't specific to specific locations or anything; Copy and paste exactly as written. The server will start in a minute or two, and then you will see the message "Success! Application "3017310" is fully installed." Congratulations, the hard part is now done. Now go to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file and select Steamapps, then Common, and then Soulmask Dedicated Server for Windows. My exact path is C:\Users\username\Documents\Steam\CMD\steamapps\common\Soulmask Dedicated Server for Windows. Again, your folder may look slightly different depending on where you created the folder in the first step. From here, right-click on the file named StartServer and select Edit in Notepad. Make sure that you are not running the file because you cannot make any changes to the file (change server settings) while it is running. In Notepad, you can go in and change various parameters to control your server settings. The most popular ones are:

SteamServerName="your server name"
PSW="your password"
pvp or -pve

These modifications should be entered into Notepad immediately after "-forcepassthrough". Each of them should be separated by a space. When you are happy with your setup, close the Notepad file (save it first) and run StartServer. While this file is running, you and your friends will be able to see and join your dedicated server.
