When you see M 009 at first, it looks like just some sort of unfinished pillar, but if you're stumped with this or any future challenges, you can always do a Cyloop. You can't melee target it nor can you do anything special to interact with it.

Doing so will lift this pillar off the ground for a few seconds, so you'll have to be quick to climb it. To dash up walls, you'll need to hold down the boost button and hold forward. When you do, Sonic will either climb climb or run depending on how much momentum you have when making contact with the walkable surface of this pillar.

At the top of the pillar, you'll need to do another wall run on the floating platform above it. There is a strange mechanism in this platform. You will have to make another Cyloop to complete the M 009 challenge.
