If you’re diving into
PEAK, one threat you’ll want to stay ahead of early on is
poison. Poison is most common in the first two areas: the Shore and the Tropics. If you ignore it for too long, it’ll make a mess out of your run. Here’s everything you need to know about how poison works, what triggers it, and how to bounce back if you get hit.
What Happens When You’re Poisoned?
In
PEAK, poison is not just something that drains health, but it also targets
stamina. When poisoned, a purple area with a skull icon appears on your stamina bar, actually
shrinking the amount of stamina you can use. If left unattended for too long, you can collapse and eventually have to get revived by a teammate.
Note: The rate of poison build-up depends on the cause. Some sources will poison you slowly, while others will flood your system in a matter of seconds.
How to Treat Poison in PEAK
Got poisoned? Don’t panic. There are a few handy items that’ll help you recover:
- Cure-All:
- The rarest and most powerful option.
- Removes all status effects (including poison) and fully restores stamina.
- You’ll sometimes find one in luggage, but your best shot is reaching the topof a biome and interacting with the Ancient Statue—this guarantees amythical item, and often it’s a Cure-All.
- Antidote:
- Your basic poison fix.
- Cures the poison effect completely and comes with multiple uses.
- Can be found in luggage containers scattered across biomes.
- Medkit:
- Heals both poison and health but can only be used once.
- Also located in luggage, though not as commonly as Antidotes.
Poison Traps You Should Watch For
Plenty of hazards in PEAK can poison you, and not all of them are obvious. Here’s a breakdown of the most common sources:
- Purple Sea Urchins: These spiky hazards hurt on contact and apply low but consistent poison buildup if you don’t move away from them.
- Tainted Food (Mushrooms & Berries): Wild food has a random chance to be poisonous. Eating it is a gamble, and the poison severity varies. Always check your guidebook if unsure.
- Spore Bushes: These explode into a toxic gas cloud on touch. Being in the cloud formore than a second or two causes rapid poison accumulation.
- Bloodsucking Ticks: These pests latch onto you and slowly poison you over time until theyare removed. You might need to manually remove them or shake them off.
- Burned Meals: Overcook your food—intentionally or not—and it might turn poisonous. Not the worst source, but still a threat if you're not careful withcampfire cooking.
- Wobbly Jelly Mushrooms: Step on these, and you’ll get a small dose of poison. Stay down too long (e.g., if knocked down), and it keeps piling up.
- Poisonous Flora (Bushes & Flowers): Easily spotted by their purple hue. They apply low poison damage just by being close to them, so maintain your distance.
Final Tip: Poison might seem manageable at first, but if you let it build, it cantake you out before you know it by severely limiting your stamina. Keepyour distance from suspicious plants, be careful with what you eat, andalways carry a few cure items—because once your stamina bar startsturning purple, the clock is ticking on your ability to climb.
