Should you build for Armour or Evasion in Path of Exile 2?

I could have made it easy for me and give you a straightforward answer, but in reality, Path of Exile 2 is quite complicated, offering lots of possibilities, which simply cannot allow for a simple answer. So, in order not to compare these two protective stats directly, let me first explain their use cases, strengths, and weaknesses and later give examples in which situations Armour is better than Evasion and vice versa

Protective Gear

Though the advantages of zeroing in on a character's Armor build in Path of Eixle 2 are pretty overt, the disadvantages may be more subtle. The reason is that all other forms of damage mitigation directly interact with armor since it is a damage mitigation statistic. Additional statistics, such as resistances and physical damage reduction, are represented by these. Although it is separate from your actual damage reduction, physical damage reduction increases as quantities of Armor increase. I know this is all very mathematically confusing, but bear with me.

If you want to be in the middle of a fight without taking any damage, consider stacking Armor. It reduces damage, especially burst damage. A character can gain a lot of physical damage with high Armor before getting killed. When your armor is made with high health and resistance, it performs very well, making you very tanky and constantly losing health during fights.

The problem with building Armor is that it's a damage reduction stat and not an avoidance stat in addition to that. You should always avoid taking damage if you can help it. But characters that actually focus on Armor give up this quality to make the damage they do take in tolerable. One big disadvantage is that they do not make an effort to keep away from it, which is an issue when the devastation is critical enough that Armour isn't going to cut it.

Evasion

Evasion is an incredibly powerful Avoidance stat that, as opposed to Armour, is targeted at entirely saving you against destruction. A character with Evasion as their key ability can dodge almost anything. Since the Evasion stat becomes more powerful by each point, the percentage chances of receiving damage lowered. Late game in Path of Exile 2 you want to take some damage so that you can actually use your flasks, so yeah Evasion is stronger in comparison to Armour, which has a somewhat bigger downside.

The greatest weakness of evasion is the precision with which your enemies are using it. You will never be able to make an unkillable character, even with maxed-out Evasion. The reason is that your Evasion stat is being countered by your adversaries' Accuracy stat in the background. If the enemy's Accuracy stat wins, you will take a blow, and since you lack Armor, the blow will hurt a lot.

It just will; keep in mind that Stacking Evasion will keep you safe from most attacks, but you are going to have to push that potion button often, especially at endgame, whereas an Atlas map enemy will sometimes insta-kill you without letting you recover from a hit, so be careful when stacking Evasion.

Since evasion does not deal damage, it is technically superior. However, this holds true only if you are immune to harm, which is obviously not going to happen. At the same time, Armour is a sure bet that will never let you down.
