The category of equipment known as 'Unique' is extremely rare, powerful, and always guaranteed to feature specific modifiers and statistics in Path of Exile 2. Unique items are among the most feared treasures in PoE 2, and obtaining them does not come easily.
The three major ways Path of Exile 2 players get Uniques are through farming Rares and Bosses, through Gambling, and through using Orbs of Chance. If you want to actually farm Uniques in Path of Exile 2, you'll want to focus on Rares and Bosses. If you have a particular Unique you're looking for in your build, though, using Gambling and Orbs of Chance is your best bet. Farm Rares and Bosses for Exclusive Drops In general, exclusive items might drop from any enemy, normal or magic, as well as from Chests. Rare and Boss enemies, though, have a significantly higher chance of dropping high-end items, including full Currency consumables and Unique items.
It will not be easy, hunting down those Rares and Bosses will be, especially if you seek to obtain certain high-tier Uniques that drop exclusively from late-game and endgame enemies. In the early game of Path of Exile 2, a prime location for farming Uniques is the Mausoleum of the Praetor in Act 1. This area features the Forgotten Riches section, packed with numerous chests and a stash of Gold hidden beneath a set of stairs under a tomb.
To farm Bosses and Rares effectively, travel to a zone at least two or three levels below you, where you can easily find an Instance of a Boss class enemy to farm over and over again. Create a fresh Instance to refresh the zone's geometry and mobs, then go and kill the boss. Re-instance to run the zone again.
Avoid venturing into areas that are much lower than your current level to maximize your XP gains while farming Bosses. Players should target a level range that enables them to bypass regular enemies and efficiently defeat the Bosses with minimal effort.

Try Your Luck at the Local Gambling Vendor
Uniques can be acquired in some of the most effective ways with Gold at the Gambling vendor across every town in Path of Exile 2. You will be able to notice, in every hub area within each Act, a vendor NPC that has every category of item type in its stock. The stats and modifier type equated to the items, at the time of their purchase, will be totally randomized, hence making their buying a bit surprising and uncertain.
Hovering over this merchant's inventory only shows the kind of gear, and gives a good indication whether it has armor, evasion, or Energy Shield as a base. No stats or modifiers are shown.
The Gambling system can be highly risky, taking a big investment of Gold for an item that could be crap. The chances of getting Uniques via gambling are relatively low.
In regards to chasing a specific Unique, players of Path of Exile 2 should only spend their Gambling vendor money on gear that is specific to the type they are seeking. If you need Unique Gloves in your build, for example, you should only purchase those from the vendor.
This is different from Diablo 4, where you could gamble any type of Mythic Unique item by gambling on any type of gear – for example, you could gamble Shako by gambling on Boots.
While the chances of getting Uniques via Gambling are very low, having extra Gold allows you to take a shot at it without any real downside.
Take a Leap with an Orb of Chance
Uniques can also be farmed in Path of Exile 2 by slapping an Orb of Chance on a Normal item. The Orb of Chance is a highly coveted Currency item that has the possibility of upgrading a Normal item into a Unique quality piece or, alternatively, destroying it utterly. This process transforms the item into a Unique, complete with all the specific Modifiers tied to it, or it will be instantly destroyed—there's no in-between, and the odds of obtaining a Unique are relatively low.
Chance Shards can be acquired as uncommon random drops from enemies across all Acts, while full Orbs of Chance are more evasive, usually dropping from Magic, Rare, and Boss enemies starting in Act 3 on Cruel difficulty and further.
You will occasionally stumble upon full Orbs of Chance in Acts 1 and 2 if the luck of the gods shines on you. However, they are so much more common at higher difficulties and are still extremely rare.
The chance that a Normal item will upgrade to a Unique is very small, but it does occur occasionally. Once you're deep in the endgame, it's time to gamble with a few Orbs of Chance. Much like in other forms of gambling, when attempting to obtain a specific Unique, players of Path of Exile 2 should only use Orbs of Chance on Normal items of the gear type.
