Runes are single-use enhancements that can elevate your top gear to new heights; here's how to utilize them effectively.
Path of Exile 2: How To Equip Runes
Having a rune in your inventory allows you to seamlessly insert it into any gear piece that features an unfilled socket. Runes offer two distinct effects, with only one in play based on the item you choose to equip the rune to:
- Martial Weapon - Triggers the offensive bonus of the rune that appears first on the list.
- Armor - Triggers the defensive bonus of the run that is specified second.
Once a rune is affixed to a piece of gear, it becomes a permanent enhancement.
Players will discover numerous Runes of the same type, with a maximum capacity of 10 for each in their inventory. Although runes cannot be removed from gear, it's wise not to delay their use. As you progress, you'll discover more powerful runes that may render your current ones outdated. For optimal performance, it's best to equip runes on gear of yellow rarity or higher, unless you have surplus runes available for a blue rarity item.
Ways to Acquire Socketed Gear
Although certain gear may occasionally come with a socket for a rune, it's important to note that every piece of gear can ultimately be enhanced with a socket. In town, the Salvage Bench allows you to dismantle any gear featuring a socket, even those embedded with a rune, to obtain the components needed for an Artificer's Orb. Use Artificer's Orbs on any gear piece to add a socket effortlessly. It's advisable to hold onto these items until you're further along in the game. This strategy allows you to enhance your high-end gear with sockets, rather than wasting resources on early-game equipment that you'll soon replace.
Discovering Runes in Path of Exile 2
Finding runes can be quite elusive, as they are randomly dropped by monsters and bosses. While these items are indeed rare in Act 1, you'll discover them more frequently as you advance through the later acts of the game. Resetting Instances each time you enter a new area is a smart strategy. This ensures that chests and mini-bosses respawn, giving you a better chance to collect valuable runes.
