Conquering the Count To avoid his strong attacks, Geonor has to know the exact position and when to retreat. The Mad Wolf is not that kind of boss that can be beaten by spamming buttons; you need to dodge or block it. Even the strongest builds will be destroyed in a second if you press the button too often.

How to Beat Count Geonor in Path of Exile 2?



Geonor's battle consists of three different phases. In the first part of the fight, he uses ice attacks, swings a huge greatsword, and sometimes transforms into a wolf while in his human form. Phase 2 sees him completely transform into a wolf, full health regained, and new, much more difficult-to-evade attacks and abilities. Phase 3: Unleash the fury, becoming an even more formidable adversary.

Part One: Human Body



The opening phase of this fight is somewhat easier. You can do some damage between combos because Geonor telegraphs most of his attacks.

Here are some brutal blows Geonor can let loose as a human:.

  • Sword Combo: Geonor unleashes a furious seven-hit sword flurry, raining blows upon his foes.
  • Sword Thrust: A swift and deadly strike, Geonor thrusts his sword, sending a high-speed wind slash tearing through the air.
  • Sword Charge: With a battle cry, Geonor charges forward, his sword extended, impaling any unfortunate soul caught in his path.
  • Sword Ice Wall: Geonor conjures two towering ice walls, trapping his opponent in a deadly ice prison before delivering a devastating downward strike.
  • Wolf Summons: Transforming into a fearsome wolf, Geonor summons a pack of five feral wolves to aid him in the hunt.
  • Red Blood Slam: Vanishing into a crimson mist, Geonor reappears with a thunderous slam, unleashing a devastating area-of-effect attack.

Dodge Difficulty:

  • Easy
  • Hard



Red Blood Slam is the key move to keep an eye on throughout this phase. Not only is it difficult to avoid, but you'll be unable to evade the strike if you initiate the dodge immediately upon the blood circle's appearance. To prevent harm, you must approach the circle's edge before dodging. The timing of this must be impeccable. If you don't, you'll end up tanking hits because you'll be right on the explosion zone's edge. Dodging is only useful if you manage to avoid the area of effect damage, as there are no i-frames.

Second Stage: Wolf Shape



Once Geonor's health drops to about 40%, he can recoup it completely by fully transforming into a big wolf.


  • Icicle Breath (Easy): Geonor exhales a chilling mist, forming icicles that deal minor damage and slow enemies.
  • Ice Spikes (Medium): Plunging his sword into the ground, Geonor conjures frost circles that erupt into icy spikes, freezing anyone caught within.
  • Ice Mist (Hard): A deadly fog envelops the arena, spawning relentless wolves and punctuated by Geonor's swift, damaging dashes.
  • Requiem on High (Hard): From the heavens, beams of ice rain down, striking the ground with a chilling force that slows and damages enemies.


Voice Lines


  • Icicle Breath: "Feel the chill of my icy breath."
  • Ice Spikes: "Your heart will shatter like the ice beneath your feet."
  • Ice Mist: "Embrace the cold, dark night."
  • Requiem on High: "The heavens weep with icy tears."


To ensure your safety during the Ice Spikes attack, it's best to stay far away from Geonor. Players can completely evade the attack by positioning themselves on a spot devoid of ice surface. This enables melee characters to unleash their attacks on the boss without the concern of evading. This is the prime moment for DPS to shine.


Steering clear of the summoned wolves during Ice Nova is a misstep. Thirty seconds can feel like an eternity when you're trying to evade Geonor, who’s relentlessly pursuing you every step of the way. This situation is truly a hidden advantage, as eliminating the wolves serves as a means to replenish health and mana flasks. Make sure to unleash your most powerful AoE spells and abilities to handle the wolves; if you allow yourself to be trapped and overwhelmed, it could lead to your demise.



Although you can cast ranged spells during Requiem on high, prioritizing dodging the beams is the more straightforward approach.


If you're struggling with low DPS, think about enhancing your primary weapon by boosting its rarity or incorporating modifiers.


Phase 3: Fury of the Wolf




As Geonor approaches his last moments in wolf form, dropping to around 25% HP, a surge of rage will consume him. In this phase, he employs the same attacks as before, but with one crucial enhancement.


Attack: Red and Black Beams


  • Description: Geonor calls down beams of red light that damage a small area on impact. This attack is similar to "Requiem on High," but with slightly increased damage.
  • Voice Line: None
  • Dodge Difficulty: Medium


Strategy:


  • After the initial attack, Geonor will randomly unleash these beams alongside other attacks. Be ready to dodge at a moment's notice.
  • Culling skills, which instantly kill low-health enemies, can be effective against Geonor, especially during his third phase.
