Vaal Orbs, a staple of Path of Exile 2's endgame crafting loop, are required to access some of the most broken gear in the game. - Nothing happens.
- The corrupted modifier is added.
- All modifiers are removed and rerolled.
- A socket is added.
Only one of the four possibilities can ever occur with a Vaal Orb; it is never possible for two or more to occur.
Nothing Happens
Vaal Orb can either leave the item unchanged or add a corrupted tag depending on the item. You are not able to use any Currency on the item anymore because of the corrupted tag, including the Vaal Orbs although the stats and modifiers of the item remain unchanged.
Adds a Defective Modifier
Vaal Orbs can add one from a selected list of corrupted modifiers regardless of how many affixes an item already contains. This is quite useful if you find anything really important, but it's just a good result if the extra attachment isn't that notable. Of all the other modifiers, this one appears as an implicit. The only way to get 5-modifier Jewels in Path of Exile 2 is to vaal them.
Modifiers for Rerolls
Unlike Divine Orbs, which reroll all (or part of) an item's modifiers within the maximum upper and lower limit of possible, Vaal Orbs can reroll all (or part of) an item's modifiers in another way. Using a Vaal Orb can plus (or minus) an item's modifier.
Vaal Orbs can only reroll modifiers of Unique items, unlike Divine Orbs which can reroll modifiers of any item.
For example, take a Temporalis, which has a modifier saying, "Skills have -# seconds to Cooldown," and can take values from -2- -4. Different from what happens whenever the usage of Divine Orbs, the Vaal Orbs can be outdone and utilized in acquiring Temporalis with a cooldown of -4.1 seconds.
You can add one socket to an item using Vaal Orbs. If an item of weapon or armour only has the ability to have two sockets, they can only be achieved by corrupting that base. You are even able to corrupt the unique Morior Invictus Grand Regalia with four sockets to get five sockets.
Only items that can logically have a socket can have one added to them. Sockets cannot be added to amulets, rings, belts, flasks, and rings.
In Path of Exile 2, when a Vaal Orb is used on a Skill Gem or Spirit Gem, a specific pool of outcomes becomes active. Outcomes can take one of six forms:
- Moves up one tier.
- Goes down one tier.
- Gets a place for a support gem.
- Has a support gem slot consumed
- Has 1-20% less Quality.
- Has 2-10% more Quality.
If a Vaal Orb is applied on a Skill Gem, only then one would avoid using Greater Jeweler's or Perfect Jeweller's orb in order to achieve a Level 21 Gems, or maybe acquire a 5-link and 6 link without using of either of orbs mentioned above.
Corrupted Skill and Spirit Gems are still could be leveled but no longer their quality can not be improved by you.
How Does Omen of Corruption work in Path of Exile 2?

- Enchant the Amulets with Spells Cast from Distilled Emotions
- Because it's not possible to alter an corrupted item afterwards you are allowed to use Chaos Orb, Divine Orb or Orb of Annulment on it prior to Vaaling if you want to
There are only two exceptions to this rule:
- It is still possible to level a Skill Gem and a Spirit Gem after corruption has been applied to it.
- You are able to socket different Runes or Soul Cores into it.
