Outer Worlds 2: All Cloister Excogitation Logs

Phase 1: Starting the 'Deviations Under Duress' Quest

While you can technically begin this mission by finding the first Log, speaking to the quest-giver guarantees you have the objective tracked and ready.

1. Locate Oracle Laureate Lesley Beckett

The quest starts in Laplace Garden, a major stronghold operated by the Order of the Ascendant.

• Arrival Point: Head down the main path directly from the Cloister landing pad until you reach Laplace Garden.
• The Oracle: Once inside the stronghold, look for a balding man meditating near the left side of the stream that runs through the area. This is Oracle Laureate Lesley Beckett.
• The Conversation: Speak to Beckett. He will ask you if you have encountered anyExcogitation Logs or Chapels during your travels, thus officiallyinitiating the 'Deviations Under Duress' mission.

2. The Alternative Start

If you stumble across one of the four Chapels and pick up a Sojourner'sLog before speaking to Beckett, the quest will automatically begin.However, you will still need to return to Laureate Beckett after finding all four Logs to claim your final mission reward.

Phase 2: Locating All Four Excogitation Chapels

The four Chapels are strategically placed across the Cloister region, often in high-altitude or defended locations. Prepare for platforming andcombat.

Cloister Chapel Location 1: East From Winter's Grasp

• General Location: Look to the east of the primary settlement of Winter's Grasp. The Chapel is situated on top of a high cliff.
• Access Notes: To reach the summit, you’ll need to utilize vertical movement. Search for a series of ropes leading up the cliffside just below the Chapel's location. You will then need to carefully execute double-jumps up the icy ledges nearby to reach the final top platform.
• Log Recovered: Sojourner's Log 1

Cloister Chapel Location 2: Northeast of The Archive (The Buckshot Bill Problem)

• General Location: Travel northeast from The Archive and the associated NPC, Newton. You will have to pass through a Scrapper Camp to find this Chapel.
• Access Notes: This Chapel is locked and defended. You must eliminate a named Scrapper, Buckshot Bill, to retrieve the necessary key that grants you entry to the Chapel and the Log inside. Prepare for a targeted encounter.
• Log Recovered: Sojourner's Log 2

Cloister Chapel Location 3: Near The Far Northern Bridge

• General Location: Head directly northwest from the previous Excogitation Chapel location. Look for this Chapel positioned dramatically on top of a cliff just north of a nearby bridge.
• Access Notes: This location offers multiple ways in, depending on your characterbuild. The easiest methods involve using your skill points: eitherutilize the Engineering skill to bypass the mechanism or rely on the Brawny trait to simply break open the front door with brute force.
• Log Recovered: Sojourner's Log 3

Cloister Chapel Location 4: The Underlands Exit

• General Location: This final Chapel is accessed not from the main surface, but as an exit point from The Underlands, the subterranean area beneath Cloister.
• Access Notes: You must gain access to The Archive and venture into The Underlands below. Once underground, you will encounter a series of lifts designed to take you back to the surface. One of these specific lifts leads directly up to the Chapel, which is situated on top of a hill at its designated location.
• Log Recovered: Sojourner's Log 4

Phase 3: The Reward for Diligence

Once you have successfully collected all four Sojourner's Logs from theirrespective Excogitation Chapels, it's time to return to yourquest-giver.

• The Final Step: Return to Oracle Laureate Lesley Beckett at Laplace Garden.
• The Spoils: Upon confirming you have all four Logs and completing the 'Deviations Under Duress' mission, you will receive a standard XP reward and a High Security Lockbox.
• Unlocking the Vault: To open this Lockbox, you must use Advanced Decryption Keys (found primarily on the Incognito). The Lockbox usually contains rare and valuable gear.
• Achievement Earned: You will also unlock the dedicated Cloister Excogitation Logs CEL-ebration achievement, marking your completion of one of The Outer Worlds 2's four major collection quests.
