In a compelling segment of No Sleep for Kaname Date, the third entry in the AI: The Somnium Files series, the beloved character Ota finds himself in a precarious situation, trapped inside an elevator. It falls to Iris and Moma, operating from their respective floors in the building, to orchestrate his rescue from this eerie predicament.Early in this puzzle, while controlling Ota, a crucial step involves relaying a code to Iris. This code is vital for her to open a locked safety latch on the wall, hopefully revealing a path to Ota's escape. Additionally, there's a critical item Ota must retrieve before the puzzle progresses.

No Sleep For Kaname Date: Elevator Star Puzzle

How To Access The Star Puzzle

The sequence of events leading to the Star Puzzle begins after Moma joins the team and becomes an active participant in the rescue operation.
  • Ota Gives Iris Card to Moma: As Ota, you'll need to transfer the "Iris Card" (presumably an item you've acquired previously) to Moma. This exchange happens through the crack at the bottom of the elevator doors.
  • Moma Buys Rubbing Alcohol: Once Moma has the Iris Card, switch your control to her. Head over to the vending machine on her floor. There, you'll be able to purchase the only remaining item available: a cup of rubbing alcohol. This is used to remove a sticker from the card.
  • Moma Keeps Sticker, Gives Card to Ota: Moma should keep the "Iris Sticker" that is revealed. However, she needs to return to the elevator and pass the now-modified "Strange Code Card" back to Ota through the crack at the bottom of the doors.
  • Ota Uses Strange Code Card: Switch back to controlling Ota inside the elevator. Use the Strange Code Card on the slot located at the bottom of the elevator's number panel. This action will reveal the code 1380.
  • Open Elevator Safe: Use the code 1380 to open a hidden safe located within the elevator. Inside, you will find a new card and a button with the number six on it.
  • Install and Press Six Button: This "Six Button" is clearly meant for the elevator panel. Go back to the number panel and place the Six Button where the button for the sixth floor would normally be. Once installed, press the button to progress.

As soon as you regain control of Ota after pressing the "Six Button," your immediate priority is to take the item from the puzzle area. This item is a magazine of ammo for a weapon Ota doesn't currently possess. While important for later, for now, shift your focus to the prominent star symbol surrounded by six semicircles, each of varying lengths, which is part of the puzzle display.

Concurrently, Iris, on her floor, requires a six-digit code for a locked latch in the wall. This latch bears the exact same starsymbol as the puzzle Ota is observing in the elevator. To help Iris open this "star latch," you need to solve Ota's star puzzle.

    Deciphering the Star Puzzle:

    • Numbered Semicircles: The only numbers explicitly labeled on the star chart are one and six.
    • Completeness Indicator: Observe closely that these numbers refer to the completeness of the semicircle. "One" represents the shortest, least complete line, while "Six" signifies an almost fully completed circle.
    • Blue Arrow: A large blue arrow is prominently affixed to the sixth line. This arrow indicates the reading direction for the code.

    The Solution Logic:

The code for the star safe Iris needs to open is worked out by assigning anumber between two and five to each of the unnumbered semicircles, based on their completeness (length), following the established pattern where 1 is the shortest and 6 is the most complete.

The key is the order of the rings from outermost to innermost, read along the direction indicated by the blue arrow. This can be a bit convoluted, as it requires you to memorize theassigned "completeness" numbers for each semicircle and then read themin a specific order.

By carefully assigning each line in the starpuzzle a number based on its "completeness" (length) and then readingthose numbers from left to right across the blue arrow, starting withthe outermost circle's number and concluding with the innermost's, youarrive at the solution.

The solution to the star puzzle in the third chapter of No Sleep for Kaname Date that opens Iris's safe is 512436.
