Monster Train 2: How to Upgrade Units

Monster Train 2 offers a multifaceted approach to enhancing your units' capabilities.

• Temporary Boosts:
  • Artifacts: Certain artifacts found throughout your run can provide temporary boosts to your units' stats, such as increased health or attack power.
  • Support Units: Some support units offer passive buffs, granting effects like Valor or additional Health to other units under specific conditions.
• Permanent Stat Upgrades (Merchant of Steel): For lasting enhancements to your units' base stats and abilities, you'll want to prioritize visiting Merchant of Steel nodes along your route.
  • Guaranteed Spawn: The very first battle you complete in a run will always spawn a Merchant of Steel node in the subsequent room, guaranteeing an early opportunity for upgrades.
  • Randomized Spawns: Beyond the first, the appearance of Merchant of Steel nodes is randomized, though on average, you can expect to find 4-5 such nodes as you progress through a run.
  • Route Planning: To check the available nodes and plan your path, simply click the map icon in the top right corner of your screen after starting a run.

Once you arrive at a Merchant of Steel node, interacting with it will open the shop interface. The shop will present you with four randomized upgrade options from a predefined list, each costing a different amount of Coins:

Smidgestone	Reduces a unit's Room Cost to 1
Dualstone	Upgrade a unit to gain Dualism
Frenzystone	Upgrade a unit with Multistrike 1
Speedstone	Upgrade a unit with Quick and +10 Attack
Largestone	Upgrade a unit with +1 Room Cost, +15 Attack, and +50 Health

You can also buy a Purge Card from the shop to remove a card from your deck, offering a way to refine your strategy. Alternatively, you can spend 50 Coins to re-roll the shop options if you don't find what you need.

Applying Upgrades and Strategic Considerations

Once you purchase an upgrade, you'll have to apply it to any of the non-champion units in your deck.

• Limited Slots: Each unit can be equipped with up to two upgrades, and once applied, these upgrades are non-refundable. As such, you'll want to think carefully before investing in an upgradefor your unit, considering your current deck synergy and upcomingchallenges.
• Checking Upgrades: You can easily check the upgrades currently applied to a unit by hovering over the icons below their Ember Cost.
