In Hell Is Us, the world is filled with cryptic puzzles and "mysteries" that you must solve without the help of waypoints or quest markers. The very first of these enigmas you are likely to encounter is the Caddell Family Treasure, a side quest that will test your observational skills and reward you with a powerful piece of early-game gear.This guide will provide a detailed walkthrough of how to complete this treasure hunt, from finding the first clue to unlocking the final reward in Senedra Forest.

Hell Is Us: Where to Find the Red Boulder

Part 1: Starting the Mystery

The Caddell Family Treasure mystery begins in Senedra Forest, shortly after you encounter a wounded soldier who tasks you with finding a medkit. Instead of following his direct path, you'll need to explore a small side path to find the starting clue.

• Locate the Starting Point: From the wounded soldier's location, look west. You will see a path leading into the woods, marked by a series of X's painted on the trees. Follow this path.
• Find the Hint: Go to the left of a noticeable fallen tree along this path. Right in front of you, you'll spot a rock pile with a yellow glint on top of it. This is not just a cosmetic detail—it's your first clue.
• Read the Riddle: Interact with the glint to retrieve the Caddell Treasure Hint. The note contains a taunting riddle from one of the Caddell children, referencing several key landmarks: "You dummies won't ever find whjere I hid the key! You're all too stupid! Arloh can't even read, 4 eyes Gus is probably too blind to see the red boulder, and Atti's too small to climb all the way up the hill!"

The riddle gives you your first objective: find a "red boulder" to get the key.

Part 2: Finding the Rusted Key

The next step takes you further along the path marked by the "X"s.You'll need to stay sharp to spot the red boulder, which is actually ared-colored pile of stones, as the riddle's sarcastic tone suggests.

• Continue Uphill: Keep following the winding path marked by the X's. You will eventuallycome across a pile of barrels with an X painted on one of them.
• Find the Hidden Path: The wounded soldier's camp and the medkit are to the right of this pile of barrels. However, to find the treasure key, you'll need to turn left and look for another turning that takes you back on yourself up a hill.
• Locate the Red Boulder: Head up this hill and follow the path to its very edge. There, you will find the red boulder, which is a distinctive pile of red-colored stones. Interact with it to receive the Rusted Key.

The in-game description for the key won't tell you what it's for, but theoriginal riddle hints at the next location: a blue-painted stone.

Part 3: Unlocking the Treasure

This final stage is the trickiest, as it requires you to re-trace your steps and find a cleverly hidden path. The destination is a treasure chestlocated next to a blue boulder.

• Return to the Main Path: Make your way back down the hill from the red boulder, returning to the pile of barrels and the path where you first started.
• Spot the Landmarks: Look for a tree marked with a large X, next to a stack of wooden pallets. A blue boulder on a ledge is also visible from this area.
• Find the Hidden Route: To the right of the X-marked tree and the wooden pallets, you will find a hidden path between some trees. It can be easy to miss, so lookcarefully.
• Follow the Path: Head up this path. When it splits off, take the right-hand turn. Follow it a short distance until you find a ledge.
• Claim Your Reward: Drop down from the ledge, and you will land right in front of the blue stone pile with a locked treasure chest sitting next to it. Use your Rusted Key to open the chest.

Part 4: The Treasure and Its Rewards

Congratulations! You have successfully solved your first mystery. Inside the chest, youwill find a congratulatory message and a piece of gear.

The reward for completing the Caddell Family Treasure mystery is the Bracelet of Ecstasy - Wanton Destruction. This is a powerful piece of defensive gear for the early game, offering the following bonuses:

• Damage Absorption: 5%
• Endurance Bonus: +500
• Stamina Cost Reduction: 40%
• Special Effect: While grievously wounded, reduce the Stamina cost of all actions.

Upon solving your first mystery, you will also unlock the 'Amateur Detective' trophy or achievement, confirming your status as a budding explorer of the mysteries of the world in Hell Is Us.
