Kingdom Hearts, an incredible story full of magic, one of the best in the universe of videogames, it's been almost 17 years since the fantastic story was unveiled. Square Enix over the years achieved that the franchise was awarded within the industry as one of the most significant references of the same, and have been seen with the power to use large licenses, however things have not always so easy. Indeed, one of the main obstacles to overcome came, then, from several disagreements with Disney.

In an article by Callum May, from ANN, the stages that Square Enix had to go through are analyzed in order to find Disney to accede and give her greater freedom with respect to the use of their patents. The director of the franchise, Tetsuya Nomura, had already obtained the different Disney licenses, with the specific clause of not being able to use Mickey Mouse. When the main aspiration of Square Enix was to use the character as the main figure of the universe, instead of Sora, which in the end could not be possible. It was then that for Disney's convenience, it was decided that the IP itself and even the original characters were owned by Disney, thus giving the doder to the company to prevent carrying out any kind of novel decision that, somehow, would disagree with your interests. However, Disney has allowed Nomura to unfold freely, without using its authority. The changes in the situation, fortunately, occurred in the wake of Kingdom Hearts II.
