We invite you to discover How to Make Trails & Skyways in Frostpunk 2 with our explanatory guide today.

In Frostpunk 2, players embark on a dangerous voyage through the unyielding Frostland to come across Outposts and other resource-heavy places. In order to make use of these valuable sites, players need to connect them with their City or other Settlements. This connection may be made either by laying Trails that wind through rough terrain or by means of Skyways high above the freezing landscape. The following guide is going to walk through everything from A to Z and enable the players to know how to set up these critical infrastructure links efficiently.

Outposts, on their own, need a connection in order to yield resources. Harvesting Areas, though, are special areas wherein one can seek to exploit, with no such infrastructure linking. But their output might be a bit slow compared to what Outposts achieve. All the same, investing Frostland Teams in such areas is a tactical advantage, especially in the early parts of the game when resources are at a premium. By being judicious in the exploration and development of infrastructure, the player will be able to achieve resource acquisition with maximum utility possible and ensure the survival of their society in harsh Frostland.

How to Make Trails & Skyways in Frostpunk 2?

To build a Trail in Frostpunk 2, hover over one of the POIs and choose from its info panel Connect Path or Connect Trails. Alternatively, activate the Trail Construction tool and left-click on the post that would place it at the selected location.

A line will emanate from the selected point. You would like to be able to click this line to a post at the edge of your City or to an existing Trail. To start creating the Trail, in pieces do the following:

  • Hover, near the starting point, a dot matrix will appear.
  • Click a dot in the direction of the intended connection.
  • To extend the line, continue clicking dots.
  • Once there, click the checkmark on the target post or the Trail.

Remember that every segment of the Trail requires Heatstamps, Prefabs, and one unit of time to build. Frostland Teams will be tied up during building. Remember, you can only save time used for construction and resources consumed by planning your Trails carefully. In the case of connecting to the posts scattered all over Frostland to extend the dot matrix and cut how many segments you are going to use.

Then, if you're not having enough Frostland Teams, build a Logistics District or research an upgrade to make them available. However, relying on the Logistics Districts excessively will soon overload resource supply to your City and infrastructure development. Provide balance in the construction activity with regard to efficient management of resources and in general with respect to the development of your city.

Also, consider long-term aspects of your network of Trails. Well-designed Trails will get goods and people moved efficiently, boosting the productivity and resilience of your City. Conversely, badly designed Trails may generate bottlenecks and limit the development of your City. Consider every option of the route for the future benefits and possible drawbacks it may bring before you decide to build it.

How to Build Skyways?

Skyways are more than just connections in Frostpunk 2; they are strategic investments that come with massive benefits. The following benefits can be derived from connecting Outposts to the City using Skyways:

  • Unlock Hidden Potential: Outposts can be transformed into full-fledged Settlements that will increase resource production, provided the "Settlement Heating" technology is researched on the Heating Idea Tree.
  • Improve Outpost Efficiency: Skyway-connected Outposts will produce more resources necessary for the City to survive.
  • Smoothen the resource transfer: Skyways promote faster and quicker transportation of resources between the City and its Outposts. It minimizes logistical problems in many ways.
To design a Skyway, players will have to research the technology "Skyways" in the Frostland Idea Tree. Once researched, a button for "Skyways Construction" will appear at the bottom right of the Frostland screen. Players click this, select their intended Outpost, and then follow the trail-building process they already know to set up these crucial links.

Remember, Skyways are not just about physical connectivity but also about strategic planning for long-term sustainability. Wise investment in Skyways by players will make the City optimize resources and survive this frozen landscape.
