The first thing you need to know is that Rivers of Blood is in the hands of Okina, who invades near the Church of Rest deep in the Giant Mountains.

To reach the tops of the mountains you will have to go to Leyndell, kill Morgott, Omen King, and go to Rold's Great Elevator.

On the mountaintops side of the Grand Lift, you'll need to head north and east around the mountain > you'll need to cross a large bridge and go through the Zamor Ruins, then climb up and around the cliff. Proceed east, then south past the Guardian's Garrison.

At one point on this path you will find a chain bridge crossing. You will be able to see the Church of Rest on the southwestern edge of the path of great corpses. When you are near Okina you can invade with Rivers of Blood equipped, to finish off whoever approaches the church. This will allow you to get the katana.
