The Ecovacs Winbot W2 Pro Omni emerges as a novel home appliance, aiming to replicate the convenience of robot vacuums and mops, but specifically for the often-neglected vertical glass surfaces within your dwelling. This window washing robot employs a robust suction force of up to 5,500Pa to securely adhere to the glass while its dual-sided nozzles autonomously dispense a cleaning solution, promising a streak-free shine. In our comprehensive testing, the W2 Pro Omni performed as advertised, effectively eliminating grime and dirt from both interior and exterior windows. While its usability is subject to certain glass surface characteristics, for homes with suitable window configurations, this autonomous cleaner could prove to be a worthwhile investment at its $599.99 retail price.

Ecovacs Winbot W2 Pro Omni Review

Ecovacs, primarily recognized for its innovative range of robot floor cleaners, has also been a player in the window cleaning robot market for over a decade. The Winbot W2 Pro Omni stands as the premium offering in their current lineup, which begins with the more compact Winbot Mini, priced starting around $199.99.While the Ecovacs W2 Pro Omni is marketed primarily for window cleaning, its capabilities extend to other smooth glass surfaces and mirrors as well. Utilizing an integrated optocoupler sensor, the robot intelligently detects edges, enabling its safe and effective use on frameless glass shower enclosures. During our evaluation, it demonstrated excellent performance on floor-to-ceiling closet mirror doors and similar expansive, smooth surfaces.The W2 Pro Omni features a substantial 18-foot (5.5-meter) cable that tethers it to its battery-powered base station. The advertised battery life is approximately 110 minutes, translating to around 55 square feet of cleaning coverage. This claim proved accurate in our testing, as we seamlessly moved the robot between various windows without encountering power limitations. Compared to its predecessor, last year's W2 Omni, the Pro model showcases enhanced navigation efficiency, allowing it to complete its cleaning cycles more swiftly, and its spray nozzles exhibit a noticeable increase in cleaning solution dispensing power. Additional year-over-year improvements include a more robust safety and power cable, the introduction of a new zone cleaning option, and the significant addition of allowing the robot to operate while plugged into a power outlet.Of these upgrades, the ability to power the robot during operation stands out as a particularly meaningful enhancement. The previous model's inability to charge while in use seemed counterintuitive. We utilized the Pro model while plugged in on several occasions, and it represents a substantial improvement in user convenience, especially when a power outlet is readily accessible nearby.Ecovacs also introduced the Winbot Mini this year. This more budget-friendly model entirely forgoes a battery-powered base station, restricting its usage to areas within reach of a power outlet. It incorporates older-generation navigation technology and offers fewer cleaning modes compared to the Pro. Its primary advantage lies in its compact size, making it a potentially suitable alternative to the Pro only if an exceptionally small footprint is a critical requirement.

The W2 Pro Omni demonstrates versatility by effectively cleaning a range of window types, including slanted and floor-to-ceiling designs. Ecovacs recommends its use on windows measuring at least 12 inches by 16 inches. However, based on our experience, it's likely not the most efficientsolution for areas smaller than a few feet wide by a few feet high.While no explicit warnings were observed, we would advise against usingthe robot on hanging mirrors that are not securely affixed to a wall.

There are a few other important considerations to keep in mind regardingsuitable surfaces. The company advises against using the robot onsurfaces with static cling stickers or raised, textured patterns. An uneven surface can compromise the robot's suction power, potentially leading to falls. This limitation also extends to adjacent pieces of glass with even a smallgap between them, as the discontinuity can disrupt the necessarysuction.

Upon unboxing, the Winbot W2 Pro Omni arrives fully assembled and nearly ready for immediate use. The robot is permanently connected to its base station and is neatly stored within it. The front of the base station features a fold-down panel that serves as aresting platform for the robot between cleaning sessions. The rear compartment provides storage for the power cable, two included cleaning pads, and the safety cord. While the rear storage area can be kept organized, the likelihood of cordtangling will depend on the user's diligence in keeping them separated. The base station is equipped with a rubber foot underneath, which utilizessuction to ensure it remains firmly planted during operation.

The complete unit weighs approximately 18 pounds, but its integrated handle facilitates portability and makes it reasonably easy to carry betweenrooms.Measuring 12.28 inches in length, 8.46 inches in width, and 12.87 inches inheight (including the battery case), the W2 Pro Omni should comfortablyfit in a standard coat closet or on a shelf in a garage. Whenhandling just the robot itself, its roughly 3.5-pound weight feltmanageable, even when reaching to apply it to an exterior second-storywindow.

While most robot vacuums and mops heavily rely on their companion mobileapplications for advanced features and control, the W2 Pro Omni's appintegration is more limited. It does connect to the Ecovacs Home mobile app (available for both Android and iOS) via Bluetooth, but its smart feature set is considerably lessextensive than that of many robot floor cleaners. Since the W2 Pro Omni doesn't generate maps of windows, the app's primaryfunctionalities are switching between the various cleaning modes andperforming firmware updates.

The app offers a selection of seven distinct cleaning modes for the W2 ProOmni: fast cleaning, deep cleaning, thorough cleaning, edge cleaning,spot cleaning, zone cleaning, and heavy-duty cleaning.  Notably, most of these modes primarily differ in the number of passesthe robot makes over the same area. The spot cleaning mode offers anadditional feature, allowing users to utilize the app as a manual remote control to direct the robot to specific areas requiring attention.However, this manual control proved to be more cumbersome and lessintuitive than initially anticipated. While we occasionally utilized the app for mode selection, we primarily relied on the straightforwardcontrol buttons located on the top of the base station.

In addition to the power button, the base station features a button toretract the cable and another button to cycle through the three primarycleaning modes: fast, deep, and edge. An integrated speaker provides audible feedback, announcing the current action whenever a button is pressed.  The voice prompts from the base do a commendable job of keeping the user informed about the cleaner's status.

The limited reliance on a mobile app enhances the robot's practicality for a broader range of users, as not everyone is comfortable or familiar with using mobile applications for device control. Furthermore, its lessapp-dependent nature makes it easier to loan the device to otherswithout it being tied to a specific home network or user account.

To evaluate the cleaning prowess of the Winbot W2 Pro Omni, we deployed it on a variety of window surfaces, both indoors and outdoors. Adhering to the company's recommendations, we primarily utilized the fastcleaning mode for interior glass and the deep cleaning mode for exterior areas exposed to the elements.

To initiate cleaning, you simply hold the robot against the window using its handle and press the power button.  The suction engages almost instantly, and the voice prompt from thebase station confirms when it's safe to release your hold. The entireattachment process takes approximately 10 seconds.

During testing, we observed the robot as it autonomously sprayed anddiligently wiped the glass, carefully assessing its effectiveness inremoving dust and fingerprints and noting whether it left behind anyvisible streaks or water spots.25 Overall, we were impressed by the robot's ability to clean away dirtand smudges without leaving any significant residue. While faint streaks were occasionally observed, they were only noticeable upon close anddeliberate examination. While a human could undoubtedly replicate therobot's cleaning results, we doubt that most individuals couldconsistently perform the same level of cleaning with the same speed andthoroughness as the robot.

The robot took approximately two minutes to perform a fast clean on a 4-by-8-foot window area. Upon completion, all previously visible dirty spots were gone, and no discernible streaks remained. The deep clean mode took roughly four times as long to complete, as therobot meticulously retraced its cleaning path multiple times to ensure a more thorough cleaning.

On exterior windows exposed to the elements, we observed some instanceswhere the robot left behind a small amount of dirt buildup in thecorners. A quick manual wipe with a rag was necessary to fully removethis debris. Beyond this occasional need for manual touch-ups, therobot's cleaning pad will require removal, rinsing, and reattachmentbetween most window cleaning sessions, depending on the size anddirtiness of the surface being cleaned. While not a substantial burden,it does represent some ongoing manual maintenance.

Additionally, we tested the W2 Pro Omni on large mirrors and a glass shower enclosure within the house. It performed surprisingly well on these surfaces,maintaining secure suction and navigating without any issues orconfusion.

The edge cleaning mode could prove useful for large windows that primarilyaccumulate dirt around their perimeters, but the fast and deep cleanmodes are likely to be the most beneficial for the average suburbanhome. Unless the W2 Pro Omni is intended for use at multiple locations,we anticipate that most users will settle on one or two primary cleaning modes that best suit their needs. However, experimenting with thevarious cleaning options initially is worthwhile to understand theirperformance in different contexts and on various levels of soiling.

We measured the robot's noise level during cleaning at approximately 61 decibels at a six-foot distance. While not excessively loud, its buzzing sound was audible upstairswhile we were downstairs. It might be disruptive during nap times orquiet periods, but otherwise, its noise level is comparable to othertypes of autonomous cleaning devices.

Upon completing its cleaning path, the robot intelligently returns to itsstarting position on the window. To remove it, you simply grasp thehandle and press the power button until the integrated speaker announces that the robot is shutting down. At that point, the suction ceases, and the robot can be easily pulled away from the glass. On one occasion,purely for testing purposes, we left the robot in its completed statefor an additional 10 minutes, and it remained securely suctioned to theglass without any indication of losing grip. While the user needs to bepresent during the cleaning process, for the most part, the W2 Pro Omniallows for effective multitasking while it autonomously performs itsjob.
