The first large area accessible in Dragon Age The Veilguard, Arlathan Forest, features one such shortcut. You can bypass the northwest area's namesake Tattered Bridge if you don't want to, but mending it will unlock a shortcut and a valuable treasure if you do.
The Path to the Fallen Bridge
Locating the Tattered Bridge region will be your primary challenge. Both ways lead to the same destination: the Crossroads, where you can find the mirror leading to Arlathan Forest, and the unlocking of "An Unfamiliar Sense" through conversation with Harding.
Find out what happens in the companion quest "An Unfamiliar Sense." Find the wounded Veil Jumper again, and then go to the southwest corner to see what's there. Several explosive barrels should be visible behind a locked ladder. With a ranged attack, you can break the lock and trigger the barrels, which will then burst the wall behind them. Another way to get there is to use Harding's particular ability to move rocks. Go on westward until you come upon a ladder that you can climb.
Depending on your preference, you can now either head north to avoid the Tattered Bridge or head south to begin repairing it. Regardless of the type of Rook or the party members you possess, the solution remains constant. So, here's the deal:
- Gather the gem of power. The blue barrier will be rendered inoperable.
- Continue forward until you reach the power node on the left (north). Insert the crystal into that spot.
- Go north on the new bridge and turn on the projector. The power node is located on the floating rock's bottom, therefore aim the projector southward. Doing so will turn on an additional projector.
- Gather the power crystal and set it on the node in the southeast. The north projector's beam will be blocked and a bridge to the south rock will be created.
- Climb the south cliff and hammer the projector's wooden beam.
- Return the crystal that holds power from the southeast node to its rightful home in the north. After doing this, the projector will no longer be blocked.
- Make your way west, smash open the boxes, and then use the beam of wood to return to the rock in the south. While you're at it, open the chest.
- After the zipline is in place, direct the south projector's beam at the power node. The western and center parts of the Tattered Bridge will be joined by this.
- Go around to the middle pillar and get the gem that gives you power. Be sure to open the chest before you leave.
- At the power node, which is close to the southeast corner of the center pillar, set the power crystal. A "Shortcut Unlocked" notification should be displayed after this completes the bridge.
- While it is possible to bypass this problem entirely, the treasure chests it contains make solving it well worth your time.
