Fortunately, Donkey Kong's Hand Slap ability serves a dual purpose: it not only collects nearby items but also acts as a powerful sonar to reveal hidden objects.

How to Use Sonar in Donkey Kong Bananza

From the very beginning of the game, DK possesses a built-in sonar ability triggered by his Hand Slap. When performed, any buried objects within range will briefly display a glowing outline, even through solid ground. This is incredibly useful for pinpointing the locations of:

• Banandium Gems: These are crucial collectibles that can be broken to earn skill points.
• Fossils: Used to purchase and upgrade outfits for DK and Pauline at the Style Shops.
• Challenge Entrances: Hidden pathways leading to optional challenges and rewards.
• Treasure Chests: While their appearance is random, the sonar can still reveal them if they are in range.
• Banandium Chips: These are smaller, more common collectibles that can sometimes be highlighted by the sonar.

Initially, the sonar's range is quite limited, making it less effective for broader searches. However, this can be significantly improved through upgrades.

Upgrading DK's Sonar

To make the sonar a more potent tool for exploration, players should invest in upgrades:

Skill Tree - "Better Sonar" Ability:

• This ability is found within DK's Skill Tree.
• Each rank purchased substantially increases DK's sonar range.
• When fully maxed out, the "Better Sonar" ability provides a 160% range boost to DK's Hand Slap sonar.
• Prioritizing this skill early on can greatly assist in finding collectibles and progressing faster.

Pauline's Lagoon Vest (During Kong Bananza):

• When DK enters his "Kong Bananza" form, Pauline's equipped outfit can further enhance the sonar.
• The Lagoon Vest, acquired by trading Fossils at the Lagoon Layer's Style Shop, specifically boosts sonar range while in Kong Bananza.
• The Cyan Lagoon Vest, for example, offers incremental boosts:
  • Level 1: +20% sonar range during a Bananza (costs 5 Ammonite Fossils)
