In the sprawling world of
Borderlands 4, a fast travel system is essential for efficient progression. The massive, interconnected regions and numerous side quests make manual traversal a time-consuming affair. By utilizing fast travel, you can quickly jump between discovered locations, saving valuable time and allowing you to focus on the action. However, this convenient feature isn’t available from the very beginning of your journey.
Unlocking the Fast Travel System
The fast travel system in
Borderlands 4 is not a day-one perk. To unlock it, you must first complete the main story mission called “Recruitment Drive.” This mission is one of the earliest you’ll encounter and is a mandatory part of the game’s progression. Upon successfully completing it, the ability to fast travel will become available, and you'll be able to utilize the various fast travel points scattered across the map.Initially, your fast travel options will be limited to key locations like Safehouses and Silos. As you continue to explore the world, you will discover and unlock new waypoints, gradually expanding your network of available destinations.
How to Use Fast Travel
Once the system is unlocked, using fast travel is a simple andstraightforward process. Follow these steps to teleport to a desiredlocation:
- Open the in-game menu.
- Navigate to the map screen.
- On the map, select the fast travel location you wish to travel to.
- Confirm your selection by using the "Interact" option.
Important Details and Limitations
While the fast travel system is a powerful tool, it comes with a few important conditions. First and foremost, you must have already visited and unlocked a specific location for it to appear on your fast travel map. As you progress, be sure to keep an eye out for these waypoints and activate them as you go.
Initially, your primary fast travel points will be Safehouses and Silos. Safehouses are optional locations that you can claim by finding a nearby datapad and interacting with a console inside. Once you do, they become a fast travel point and a hub with vending machines and bounty boards. Order Silos also act as fast travel points once you have interacted with a terminal within them.
In addition to teleporting to fixed locations, you can also use the fasttravel system to join other players by teleporting directly to them. However, you cannot use the fast travel feature while holding certain items, such as the Speller Yeller from a specific quest, or when you have anobject in your hand. This prevents you from skipping quest objectivesand ensures you complete certain tasks as intended. By keeping theserules in mind, you can take full advantage of the fast travel system tomake your journey through Borderlands 4 as smooth as possible.
