The "Unpaid Tab" mission in Borderlands 4 is a standout story quest that sees you partnering with the charismatic operative Zane to settle a score and restore order to the chaos of Carcadia. While it involves the franchise's signature explosive combat, it also introduces clever environmental puzzles that can stump even seasoned Vault Hunters. This guide will provide a detailed, step-by-step walkthrough for two critical objectives: disrupting the jamming signal and making the crucial choice to save a beloved character, Quent.

How to Locate and Destroy the Jamming Device


After battling through hordes of Rippers alongside Zane in the Queen's Cradle area, your progress will be halted by a powerful jamming signal. Your goal is to permanently silence the source of the interference.
  • Locate the DAHL Machine: The source of the jamming is a large, noisy DAHL-branded machine. You'll notice a vent on its side that can be targeted.
  • Use Your Grapple Hook: Aim your grapple hook at the vent and interact with it to rip it off, exposing the internal components. While you can interact with these, a simple hack won't be enough to stop the device; it requires a more... forceful approach.
  • Find the High Ground: Directly behind the machine, scan the southern wall for a distinct grapple point. Use your hook to ascend to a high platform overlooking the DAHL machine.
  • The Ground Pound Solution: From this vantage point, look down. You will see a raised, circular plate on top of the jamming device. Jump off the platform and, while in the air, hold the designated ground pound button (typically Circle / B / Ctrl) to slam down onto the target with immense force.

    • A successful ground pound will crush the device, silencing the jamming signal for good and allowing you to proceed with your mission alongside Zane.

    How to Successfully Save Quent from a Grisly Fate


    Following a boss fight against the "Driller Hole" in the Ripping Room, you willbe faced with a timed moral dilemma. Quent is trapped in a deadlymachine, and you have a narrow 60-second window to free him.


    To save Quent, follow these steps quickly and efficiently:


  • Scan the Arena: The central pillar holding Quent is surrounded by a circular gantry. Immediately look up and around this structure.
  • Pull the Five Levers: You will find five emergency release levers mounted on the uppergantry. Use your grapple hook to quickly latch onto and pull each one.Be systematic and move around the circle to ensure you don't miss any.
  • Destroy the Three Pipes: After all levers are pulled, shift your attention to the base of thecentral pillar. You will see three thick pipes feeding into the machine. Switch to your weapon and shoot each one until they are completelydestroyed.


    • Once all five levers are pulled and all three pipes are shattered, themachine will power down, and Quent will be saved. Zane will express hisimmense gratitude, thankful that his friend was spared.

    Consequences: What Happens If You Fail to Save Quent?


    If the 60-second timer expires before you complete the steps, theRipper-making machine will complete its gruesome process, and Quent will be lost. The game does not provide a tangible gameplay penalty for this outcome; you will receive the same mission rewards and experiencepoints regardless of your choice.


    However, the narrative and emotional consequences are significant:


    • Zane will react with intense rage and grief, delivering unique dialogue that reflects his devastation.
    • You will miss out on future interactions with Quent in the world of Borderlands 4.
    • While it doesn't alter the main story path drastically, saving him is themorally positive choice for players invested in the characters and world of Pandora.


    Ultimately, the choice is yours: execute a perfect rescue under pressure or facethe somber repercussions of failure. For most Vault Hunters, saving agood man from a terrible fate is its own reward.
