The Recon Class has always presented a unique and rewarding challenge in the
Battlefield franchise, and
Battlefield 6 is no exception. This class, defined by its single-firing, long-range weapons, requires a high level of skill to be effective. However, as players progress, they unlock powerful attachments that significantly enhance their capabilities. One of the most impactful of these upgrades is the
Rangefinder, an essential tool for any player looking to master the art of long-range engagement.
Battlefield 6: How To Equip The Rangefinder
To equip the Rangefinder, you must first unlock the attachment. This is achieved by increasing the Mastery of any semi-automatic rifle (which includes both sniper rifles and Designated Marksman Rifles, or DMRs) to Level 4. Weapon Mastery is a progression system that advances as you accumulate kills and complete specific in-game challenges with a particular weapon. If you are new to the Recon class or struggle with the slow, high-damage nature of sniper rifles, consider starting with a DMR. While DMRs have a slightly lower damage output, their faster fire rate makes them much more forgiving and easier to use, providing a smoother path to reaching the required Mastery level.Once a sniper or DMR has reached Level 4 Mastery, you can access the weapon's customization menu. From here, navigate to the "Right Accessory" slot, which is typically located at the top of the gun model. If you have met the Mastery requirement, the Rangefinder will be available to select and equip. It is worth noting that
Battlefield 6 is still in its beta phase, and it is expected that more "Right Accessories" will be added to this slot upon the game's full release.
Utilizing the Rangefinder
While unlocking the Rangefinder is a straightforward process, understanding how to use it effectively has proven to be a hurdle formany players. In traditional long-range shooting, players must manuallycompensate for bullet drop by aiming slightly above their target's head. The Rangefinder eliminates this necessity by allowing you to "zero"your scope, meaning you can aim directly at your target regardless ofthe distance.
With the Rangefinder equipped, you will see areticle icon in the bottom right corner of your screen, next to a number (by default, it will show "100m"). This number represents the currentzero distance of your weapon. To adjust this distance, press the B key on your keyboard or down on the D-Pad if you are using a controller. This will cycle the zero distance, typically in increments, from 100m all the way up to 500m.
It is crucial to remember that the Rangefinder only works when you have amagnified scope attached to your weapon. Non-magnified optics, such asiron sights, are not compatible with this attachment.
Once youhave set the appropriate range for your target, you can "Aim DownSights" (ADS) and fire directly at them without having to account forbullet drop. This greatly simplifies long-range engagements and allowsfor more consistent shots. As you move around the map, always rememberto manually adjust your Rangefinder's zero distance to match the rangeof your next target. By constantly adapting to the environment andmanually changing the range, you can confidently target enemies atvarious distances, eliminating the need to worry about gravity's effecton your shot.
