Atomfall is a game filled with mysteries, hidden caches, and forgotten stories waiting to be uncovered. From scattered notes that lead to intriguing quests to buried artifacts that require special tools to find, the world is rich with secrets. Among these hidden treasures are Lunchboxes, collectible items tied to achievements and lore. While some are easy to stumble upon, others demand exploration, puzzle-solving, and even combat to retrieve.
In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Lunchboxes in Atomfall, including:
  • How to find and use the Metal Detector
  • All known Lunchbox locations
  • Tips for accessing tricky hidden caches
  • How Lunchboxes tie into achievements

How to Find Lunchboxes in Atomfall

Unlike regular loot found in chests or on bodies, Lunchboxes are buried underground, meaning you’ll need a Metal Detector to locate them. Wandering around aimlessly and digging randomly won’t help—you must first acquire the right tool.

Where to Get the Metal Detector

There are two ways to obtain a Metal Detector:
  • Purchase from Molly the Trader – Located on the western side of Slatten Dale, Molly sells the Metal Detector for a reasonable price.
  • Loot from a Dead Body – On the eastern side of Slatten Dale, you can find a corpse carrying a Metal Detector.
  • Once you have it, the Metal Detector icon will appear when you’re near a buried item. Move around until the signal strength reaches 10, then press the indicated button to dig up the Lunchbox.

All Known Lunchbox Locations in Atomfall

There are over a dozen Lunchboxes scattered across Atomfall, but only five are needed for the "Packed Lunch" achievement. Additionally, finding any buried items (including Lunchboxes) contributes to the "Where There's Muck, There's Brass" trophy.
Below is a complete list of Lunchbox locations, sorted by region:

    The Interchange (Late-Game Area)

Two Lunchboxes here are particularly tricky to find, as they lack coordinates and require story progression:

  • Under the Central Processor – From the Medical side, descend to ground level, head toward Oberon’s entrance, then veer toward Robotics. The Lunchbox is inside a train carriage blocking the path.
  • Near Robotics Entrance – From the ground floor (where B.A.R.D. robots patrol), take a left twice into a narrow alley near the Robotics entrance.
  • Tips for Finding Lunchboxes Efficiently

    • Use the Metal Detector Frequently – The tool will beep when near buried items, so keep it equipped while exploring.
    • Watch for Environmental Clues – Some Lunchboxes are near landmarks like wreckages, dried lakes, or ruins.
    • Beware of Enemies – Some locations are guarded by swarms, ravens, or other threats.
    • Check Locked Areas – A few require alternate entry points (climbing, side doors, etc.).

    Conclusion: Are Lunchboxes Worth It?

While Lunchboxes don’t always contain high-value loot, they contribute to achievements and world-building. Collecting them reveals more about Atomfall’s history and rewards dedicated explorers.
