Zenless Zone Zero is all about the rush of chasing new characters, which means mastering the gacha system. The following guide will break down everything you need to know about Master Tapes, the primary gacha currency in the game. What are the Master Tapes? Master tapes are received in the game and used to recruit new Agents or W-Engines through something called Signal Search. 

There exist two kinds:


  • Master Tapes: These are used for the Standard Channel and contain permanent characters and weapons.
  •  Encrypted Master Tapes: These are used for Limited Channels and contain characters and weapons that are time-limited.

How To Get Master Tapes in Zenless Zone Zero?


While luck plays a big part in pulling your desired characters, thereare several ways to increase your chances of getting these characters by earning Master Tapes:

Free Methods


  • Polychromes: The primarysource of these is through quests, events, dailies, etc. 160 Polychromes will give you a Master Tape, and another 160 are for an EncryptedMaster Tape.
  •  Residual Signals: Acquired when recruiting duplicateAgents. Can be sold for Master Tapes or used directly to buy charactersor weapons.
  • Fading Signals: Granted with every Signal Search. Up to five Master Tapes can be bought with this currency per month.
  •  Events: Some events reward Master Tapes.
  •  Daily and Weekly Challenges: These reward Polychromes and sometimes other rewards.

Paid Methods


  • 24 Hour Store: Offers several bundles to directly purchase Master Tapes or in-game currency.
  • Battle Pass: Grants additional Master Tapes and other perks.

How to Use Master Tapes


You will have access to the Signal Search menu when you hit Inter-KnotLevel 8. The following guide will explain how to put your Master Tapesto use:

  • Select Channel: You can either select the StandardChannel, which will cost one Master Tape, or a Limited Channel, whichrequires an Encrypted Master Tape.
  • Conduct Signal Search: It consumes one Master Tape to have a chance to recruit a new Agent/W-Engine. Youcan conduct single and ten pulls.

Keep in mind it's a gachasystem, so there isn't a guaranteed way to get some characters. But itwould help if you learned how to obtain Master Tapes and used themefficiently to have your preferred team.
