Are you looking for a high-performing ranged class that keeps the experience fun? Try a Mage and thank me later. Mage ranks as one of the best ranged DPS (DaMage Per Second) in WOTLK Classic, and its talent diversity, combined with many other perks, will not let you down. This guide will look closely at the talent builds, the advantages of playing a Mage, and basic tips for leveling a Mage during the WOTLK Classic. Buckle up!

What is so charming about the Mage?

Surprisingly, Mages have lots to offer in WOTLK Classic, as their class is tailored to excel in both AOE (Area Of Effect) and single-target daMage. The quickest way to reach level 80 is through dungeon completion, and the Mage acts as the perfect DPS to fill the spot and glide through the instances in no time. Because Mages are equipped to wipe out their enemy from a great distance, their weak spot is when at a close-range attack. However, the WOTLK Classic Mages have been granted several abilities and talent points to reduce their threat. Speaking of talents, Mage serves as a DPS role only, but the versatility of each talent tree will satisfy you. Frost build is survival-oriented and utilizes the spells to slow down or kite the enemy, Arcane Mage operates on quick spell casting and strategical use of spells based on bonus activations, and Fire talents rely on bursting down the enemy before they reach close range.
Apart from the variety of talent builds, Mage has many unique skills, such as the ability to teleport from city to city, mana food and drink conjuring, a spell of Invisibility, or Slowfall. As for weapons, a Mage can choose from a two-handed staff to a one-handed sword or dagger combined with an off-handed accessory. A Mage can also equip a wand as a ranged weapon.  If you struggle with WotLK Classic Gold and boosts, we will be glad to help.
Tip: Low on mana? Refrain from using your main hand in combat. Use your wand instead, it has greater range and its attacks are usuall
y swifter!

Leveling up with Frost talents

Similarly to TBC Classic, a frost Mage during WOTLK Classic is a viable choice for leveling up. You will especially take a fancy to the high survivability and the ability to solo and control the crowd thanks to kiting and consistent AOE daMage. Frost Mage is an excellent choice for questing and a great help in dungeons. When it comes to stat priority, keep in mind that Frost build needs Spell Power and Haste Rating before Critical Strike Rating or Spirit and Intellect.
The most preferred rotation against a single target consists of a series of Frostbolt with episodic usage of Frost Nova. While under the effect of Frost Nova, you can use Ice Lance while moving away from the target. On a higher level, Frost Mages can also opt for talents for Summon Water Elemental and Deep Freeze. While fighting against a group, use Blizzard instead of Frostbolt for AOE daMage.
Tip: Blizzard is your most potent AOE spell. Remember to select the Improved Blizzard in the Frost talent tree to kite the enemy with ease.
At the expense of high self-reliance, Frost Mage has the lowest daMage out of all the Mage specializations and therefore it is unsuitable for the endgame content.

The power of arcane build

Although Arcane build is often considered an endgame raid specialization, it performs satisfactorily during quests and fulfils its duty in dungeons. Arcane Mages are known for high burst daMage phases that slightly decline the longer the fight carries on. Playing an arcane Mage requires a precise usage of rotation, starting with a set of four Arcane Blasts to gain the arcane daMage bonus and followed by Arcane Missiles. With the Missile Barrage bonus activation, you will receive a 100% mana cost reduction for Arcane Missiles. In crowd control situations, you should use Blizzard and reserve Arcane Explosion for when the targets are on low HP (Health Points).
Tip: Should you choose to level up through dungeons, make sure to select Focus Magic in your talent tree. It benefits both you and another group member.
Arcane build during WOTLK Classic highly depends on Spell Power and Haste Rating as primary stats complimented by Critical Strike Rating, Spirit, and Intellect, however, since Arcane Mage struggles with mana bleeding, you may consider opting for Spirit and Intellect to prevent running out of mana in the middle of the fight. Unfortunately, without mana potions and mana gems, Arcane Mage struggles to preserve mana for the whole duration of the battle.

Leveling up as a fire Mage

If you are looking for a specialization that you can keep from level 1 to the endgame, Fire Mage is for you. Fire build is well-known for great bursts of daMage to a single target and crowd of mobs. Unlike the Arcane Mages, Fire Mages are the strongest on long fights which makes them the perfect fit for dungeons. They start with rotation starting with Pyroblast, followed by Scorch and periodicity of Fireball. After acquiring Living Bomb spell, they start the fight with Living bomb, followed by Scorch and Fireball spamming. There is also a chance of activating the passive Hot Streak that will grant you an instant cast for Pyroblast.
Fire Mage’s vital ingredients are Critical Strike Rating and Spell Power, which makes it a tricky build to gear for, however, it is possible to build up the pertinent amount. Among secondary stats are Haste Rating, Spirit, and Intelligence.
Tip: Our recommendation is to choose Skinning profession because Anatomy grants you a passive boost for Critical Strike Rating!
