The tempting promise of high-grade military gear locked away in the
Fairfield Jail Armory is often too much for any ambitious captain in
The Outer Worlds 2 to resist. Guarded by hopeful Auntie’s Choice troopers and sealed by a heavy door, the armory might seem to demand significant investment in
Lockpicking or
Explosives skills. However, savvy explorers know that the best way into any heavily guarded room is often the route the guards never think to watch.Whether you're after new weaponry or just curious about what Auntie's soldiers are hoarding, this guide reveals the secret, no-skill method to bypass security, what valuable loot awaits inside, and how you can even squeeze some extra coin from the local troopers.
The Outer Worlds 2: Open the Fairfield Jail Armory
The Easy Way In: Bypassing the Front Door
The conventional method requires a specific skill investment to deal with the heavily locked entrance:
- Lockpicking Route: Requires Lockpicking 3 skill and one Magpick.
- Explosives Route: Requires Explosives 3 skill (no Magpick needed).
While having
Lockpicking 2 or
Explosives 2 will unlock some interesting dialogue options with Trooper Kemp, it won't be enough to breach the door.
The Secret Rooftop Entrance (No Skill Required)
The brilliant workaround to the skill check is entirely environmental and costs nothing but a minute of your time. This method is thedefinitive way to get inside, regardless of your character build:
- Exit the Jail: Step out of the jail building itself.
- Locate the Scaffolding: Immediately turn right toward the bounty terminal near the entrance. You'll spot scaffolding running along the exterior wall.
- Ascend to the Roof: Head up the scaffolding until you can easily jump onto the jail's roof.
- Find the Opening: Once on the roof, look directly above the locked armory door. You will see an unguarded opening.
- Drop In: Simply drop through the hole and land inside the armory room. No skill check, no tools, no hassles!
Bonus Tip: If you speak to Warden Sterling, the inmate in the cell next to the armory, and have at least Speech 2, he’ll spill the beans about this very roof entrance. However, the vent is open and accessible whether you talk to him or not.
Once inside, don't worry about the troopers' previous chatter aboutrequisitioning the gear; they won't care if you empty the place out.Loot away!
The Spoils of War: What’s Inside the Armory
While the armory doesn't contain legendary "miracle gear" that the guardswhisper about, it offers a solid cache of early-to-mid-game items thatare certainly worth the brief trip.
Inside the Fairfield Jail Armory, you will find:
- Defensive Plate Armor Mod: A useful mod for boosting your survivability.
- Bandolier Uniform Armor: A reliable piece of gear for protection.
- Infantry Cap: A handy cap that slows down toxicity accumulation when using an inhaler.
- Shock Rods: Essential materials needed for weapon modification.
- Ammunition: A decent supply of Shotgun shells and short rounds.
- Shock Machine Gun: This is the jewel of the collection.
The Shock Machine Gun is particularly useful due to its energy damage type. This makes it anexcellent choice for tackling heavily armored enemies like Automechs, which you'll encounter frequently—especially if you plan to visit theAutomech Factory or the Vox Relay Station. It's also highly effectivefor quickly taking care of the local, non-mechanized wildlife, such as Raptidons and Crabbles on Paradise Island.
If you decide the equipment doesn't suit your playstyle, you can easily offload it at any vending machine or retail kiosk for a neat little profit, making the quick infiltration a worthy venture either way.
The Bonus Paycheck: Persuading the Troopers
Your soft skills can be just as profitable as your combat prowess. Depending on your investment in social abilities, you can actually persuade the Auntie’s Choice troopers patrolling the region to hand over some extra currency.
- Skill Check: Players with at least Speech 2 or Leadership 2 can initiate a dialogue check to convince the troopers to part withsome of their coin. Other dialogue checks might also apply, depending on your specific character build.
While the armory loot isn't game-breaking, the Shock Machine Gun and the valuable mod parts make the brief detour worthwhile, particularly if you are still in themid-tiers of your progression or preparing to breach tougher Automechzones later on. Since the rooftop route costs you nothing but a briefascent, there's truly no reason not to stop by and claim your loot!
