The First Descendant, NEXON's recent multiplayer title developed with Unreal Engine 5, offers a wide range of configuration options to optimize the gaming experience. However, it lacks one crucial functionality: resolution reduction. Despite the image enhancement technologies available, such as DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) and VSR (Virtual Super Resolution), the game does not natively support them.

How to enable DSR in The First Descendant?



To address this limitation, this document presents two technical methods to enable DSR or VSR:

Method 1: Manually modifying the desktop resolution



Set a higher desktop resolution: Access the operating system's display settings and set the resolution to a value higher than that desired for the game. For example, if DSR is intended to be used up to 4K, the desktop resolution should be set to 4K.

Considerations: This method has some limitations



  • Manual resolution change: Changing the desktop resolution is required every time the game is launched, which can be tedious.
  • Desktop scaling: Changing the resolution can affect the scaling of desktop text and icons, altering readability and usability.
  • Default refresh rate: The refresh rate is reset to 60 Hz by default, even if the monitor supports a higher refresh rate.


Method 2: Automation with AutoActions



  • Implementing AutoActions: AutoActions is a free automation tool that allows you to create profiles to modify system settings when launching and closing applications.
  • Creating a profile: Download and install AutoActions. Create a profile with the desired resolution and refresh rate for the game.
  • Profile association: Assign the created profile to The First Descendant executable. This will automate the change of resolution and refresh rate when launching and closing the game.

  • Advantages: This method offers benefits over manual modification
  • Automation: Eliminates the need to manually change the resolution every time.
  • Precise Settings: Allows you to set the desired resolution and refresh rate precisely.
  • Restore Settings: Changes the desktop resolution when you close the game.
  • Disadvantage: Requires additional software to be installed and configured (AutoActions).


In this regard, both described methods allow you to enable DSR or VSR in The First Descendant. The choice of method depends on the user's preferences and their comfort level with task automation.
