Void Shards is a new type of mission in First Successor. These missions require extreme concentration and the objective is to destroy your name to receive Void Shards as a reward. This is how you can destroy the Nether Shard.
Each Void Shard mission requires a Scion with a specific attribute or item. When you open the mission overview on the map, it will tell you which Scion you need. For example, there are only Electric or Fire descendants. Equip the appropriate Scion and head to the Nether Shard. You must destroy the Abyss Shard using the Scion ability. There are three phases, between which waves of enemies appear. Kill them all and destroy the fragment to get the reward. Completing the Void Shard mission will give you some unique rewards like Mastery XP and weapons, but most importantly you will get mods and different types. These quests can be farmed and appear every 20 to 30 seconds, so you can complete as many quests as you want. If you enter a mission without a qualified Scion, you will not receive Void Shards for completing the mission.

What are Void Shards used for in The First Descent?
The Void Shards you receive in the Void Shard quest will be used in the Void Reactor quest. The Void Fusion Reactor does not require specific offspring, but does require a certain number of void parts, which can be seen in the mission overview. Once you have enough Void Shards, interact with the fusion reactor and kill the two commanders that appear. As a reward, you will receive an electromagnet to research, as well as various modifications; Sometimes there is a chance to get an extremely rare mod.
