As you explore the diverse and sometimes dangerous planets in Revenge of the Savage Planet, you'll encounter a fascinating array of alien creatures. Fortunately for your research (and your progress!), many of these critters can be captured. This not only aids in understanding these new worlds but also unlocks essential tools and cosmetic enhancements for your protagonists. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to catch these alien lifeforms and what you can do with them once you've got them in your grasp.

Revenge of the Savage Planet: How to capture creatures

The Key to Capture: Unlocking and Using the Whip

Upon crash-landing on the initial planet, Stellaris Prime, you'll encounter numerous alien creatures. However, your ability to capture them won't become available until you've unlocked the Whip tool. This versatile tool serves dual purposes: it functions as a melee weapon for striking enemies and certain environmental objects, and crucially, it acts as a lasso for capturing creatures. To use the Whip for capture:
  • Equip the Whip: Make sure the Whip is selected as your active tool.
  • Charge the Lasso: Hold down the button assigned to the Whip. Your protagonist will begin spinning the Whip, indicating it's charging for a lasso action.
  • Approach the Target: Carefully move towards the creature you intend to capture.
  • Latch On: As you get close enough to a catchable creature, the game will indicate that you can latch onto it with the Whip. Release and briefly press the Whip button to throw the lasso.
  • Capture: Once the lasso is attached, continue holding down the Whip button to reel the creature in and capture it. It will then be added to your collection.
  • Catching Different Critters: Size and Stun Tactics

It's important to note that not all alien creatures will be equally easy tocapture. Your direct lassoing technique works well for smaller, lessaggressive critters. However, larger or more dangerous creatures willrequire a different approach: you'll need to stun them before you can successfully lasso them.

Here's how to stun and capture tougher creatures:

  • Scan the Target: Use your scanner (usually by pressing and holding the down button) toanalyze the larger or more aggressive creature. This scan will reveal a weak point on its body.
  • Target the Weak Point: Equip your Plasma Gun and aim for the identified weak point on the creature.
  • Stun with Plasma: Hitting the weak point with your Plasma Gun will produce a distinct ringing bell sound. This indicates that the creature has been staggered for a short period.
  • Seize the Opportunity: While the creature is stunned and temporarily incapacitated, quicklyequip your Whip and use the lasso technique described earlier to capture it.
  • The Research Lab: Housing and Utilizing Your Captures

Once you've captured a critter, it will be safely stored in the Research Lab. This facility becomes accessible after you unlock it on Stellaris Prime.

Here's what you can do with your captured creatures:

    • Visit the Habitats: You can return to your base on Stellaris Prime at any time to visit the Research Lab. Here, you'll find dedicated habitats showcasing thevarious critters you've successfully captured.
    • Interact with Your Captures: You can even interact with the captured creatures, triggering amusing pet animations that provide a bit of lighthearted fun.
    • Initiate Research: The primary purpose of capturing creatures is to conduct research on them using the computer terminal within the Research Lab. By initiating research on a specific creature, you will unlock new tools that aid in your progression through the game, as well as new skins to customize your equipment and appearance.

By diligently exploring, scanning, stunning when necessary, and lassoingthe diverse creatures of the savage planets, you'll not only fill yourResearch Lab but also gain the knowledge and tools needed to find yourway back home and look good doing it! Happy critter catching!
