You should know that you can create a new character when you start a new game. But you have to spend the necessary time, note that you can't change the physical appearance of your character.

When you have created your character and finished the tutorial, you will be able to access the whole village and your house > then you will have to go to the house to access the chest using the A button > choose the option to change your appearance.
