You stumble upon friendly aliens, such as Ulf and Diane in Lightyear Frontier, but if you want to do any kind of business with them, you're going to need a place to land. If you're wondering just how to pull it off, here's a helpful guide on how to create the Outpost build in Lightyear Frontier.
How to Build an Outpost in Lightyear Frontier
In Lightyear Frontier you must have had successful contact with Ulf and/or Diane initiated their questlines before you can build an Outpost, more commonly known as a Lunar Lander, for them. You will then have the ability to obtain the blueprint for the Outpost landing pad from under the Build Menu.
The following will be needed to make an Outpost:
- The machine constructs four frames of aluminium in the region of Pine Heights.
- (2) Aluminium Electronics
- Manufactured by an Assembler with Aluminium Rods Raw Material, found in the Pine Heights region, and Copper Wire manufactured from Copper Ore found in the location Edge Cliffs.
- To construct an Outpost you will have to clear a fairly large area of all vegetation and rocks. Once you have constructed one, you will be prompted to send Ulf and Diane out together. You will be able to do this in or out of your mech by accessing the keypad tower on the platform to bring up a pop-up menu where you can select Ulf or Diane.
After that, the ship of your selected neighbor will dock on the Outpost platform. When they show up in front of the ship with a yellow icon on top of their head, interact with them to initiate the conversation and their questline.
Just so you know, you have to build an Outpost for each of Ulf and Diane if you want them to come to your farm. In other words, you'll need eight aluminum frames and four aluminum electronics for the whole shebang.
How to Unlock the Ulf and Diane Questlines
Well, whether you're starting new or continuing from an advanced playthrough of Lightyear Frontier, there are a couple of unspoken objectives you need to finish up before you are able to call Ulf and Diane. By the way, you can now also contact Ulf without having the Radio Tower built.
The part of the map titled Edge Cliffs is a pretty great spot for Copper Ore, and gathering at least one node should prompt Ulf to reach out to you. This, in turn, should activate an automated response from Ulf regarding a business partnership that could happen the next day.
If he still does not get in contact with you, try restarting the game and the save file that goes along with it. We also recommend you turn 'Speech' back on again and/or restart the game after if you have completely turned it off in Settings; doing this may also break how Ulf's or Diane's intro plays out.
While you're doing this, to get Diane to call you, travel to any fully restored region of the map, but you must not go to Meadows, Pine Heights, and Edge Cliffs. For adding a glowing egg to your inventory, keep a lookout for one on the ground. Immediately, Diane will get in touch with you regarding the egg and request to take a view of your farm.
Just like Lola the Merchant, they will depart your farm in the evening upon placing their respective outposts and are unable to be spoken with again until the morning after.
