Not only is it a unique ship, but it is also a unique weapon that the Hiigaran can use without fear of such consequences from an incarnate enemy. How To Place Mines in Homeworld 3?
Planting mines is only available to Hiigaran, as Incarnation does not have ships that can do so. This ship is a mine destroyer and before researching this ship we need to research interceptors, corvettes and attack destroyers. Minelayer destroyers have no real weapons and will be defenseless until we place mines to protect ourselves, so it is best to keep them away from active combat areas when they are first deployed. Mine Destroyers have three mine laying options: Sphere, Box and Wall, hotkeys respectively for L, Shift N, N and Control N. Regardless of the formation chosen, the mine laying procedure is the same.
An outline of the affected area will be displayed to allow us to better select the area where the mine will be placed. Once a location is selected, the frigate will move to the center of the selected area and begin laying mines every two seconds to cover the area. The minelayer destroyer will continue to lay mines and replace spent mines until new orders are received, even if the enemy fires at us. Mines target nearby enemies and fly towards them before exploding. Mines will not stop tracking a ship once installed and will continue to track it even if it moves away from the initially selected impact area.
The mines will last indefinitely until an enemy approaches and activates them, allowing the miner to move to another location and place more mines if necessary. Thanks to their greater speed, some attack ships can move faster than mines and still outrun them. Larger ships, starting with corvettes, do not have this advantage and can easily fall victim to mines and are often quickly destroyed with a few hits.
